| Crate training Everyone is telling me, you have to crate train him, so i'm at day three and he has pooped and peed every night, i'm taking him out late at night before bed, he gets no food or water after 8p.m., as i was told to do, and i'm up at 6:30 to take him out. Is he suppose to be able to hold it? I am on my last straw here. |

| Well that explains why he is going in his crate, poot guy, now i feel bad, do you think it would hurt the training if at night i left him in a small area with a pad just for the night, would he still go outside during the day? |

| That's what I would do..I would actually start with the pee pad, and then gradually move it closer to the door you want him to go out..A lot of dogs are trained both ways..I have all 4 of my inside ones strictly on pee pads, although, when I take them out back to run when it's warm out, they will go out there too..How old is your little guy? |

Senior Yorkie Talker | I have had my little guy for just over a week. He's 3 months old. for the first few nights I had him in a open area with a pad. He sometimes went on it and sometimes missed it. After that I went to the crate training. I cut off his food around 6pm. And usually put him to bed around 11. I am up at about 4am and let him out as he starts barking to go out and then he goes right back to sleep in the crate. This morning he got out of his crate when my girlfriend left for work and he was out for over an hour. To my surprise he had to go and went right on a pad I have by the door. Be patient.. they will learn eventually. He surprises me every day.

| Whining when gets put in the crate? My new 3 month old whines when I put him in is crate to go night night (I go night night at the same time). He acts tired and doesn't want to play anymore so I assume it's bedtime and when I go to put him in crate he fights me and wants out, but once he's in there he starts whining within a few seconds. I just hate to feel like I'm forcing him in there and luckily he doesn't make messes in his crate so I'm thankful for that. It just makes me feel bad |

| Remember that they are babies. A child takes longer than a few days to potty train and so will your furbaby. Tessa is 4 months and still has accidents. She also used to whine in her kennel(crate) but now she goes in it when she wants a break. Like a child, they see how far they can push you to see what they can get away with. Good Luck.

| He is 15 weeks and he wasn't doing well with the pee pad, he goes in it if he's confined to a small area, but the minute i would let him loose he would pee and poop all over, thats why i decided to take him out. |

| Make sure the crate is very small. Just enough room to turn around in and lay down. We had the smallest one and put a small shoebox in the back of it to make it smaller for a while. Also for the first week we had him, I set my alarm and took him out in the middle (about 2-3 am) night. He never had an accident in his crate at night. Now his is almost a year and goes in his crate about 11 pm and will sleep on weekends till 10 am if we are still sleeping. His crate is right by our bed. Good luck |

| We have a small little new guy and he cannot make it all night either. Even with as you said the food and before bed potty. His cage is as directed and he just can't make it. So my smart husband found a box to attach to one end and lined it with a pee pad. JJ has done great since then (4 nights) plus on days we are at work he goes into the box. It at least teaches him to go on the pee pad which is not his balnkets or carpet, he doesn't have to lay near it, and we get some sleep. We have the kennel that open in the front and end. He opened the end and then used plastic ties to put through the box and kennel. The way he placed the box was so that it only opens to the kennel and then is all enclosed so that JJ can't jump out of it. I hope it helps. We did the same thing with our 11 mo. old Cosmo and he is now completly potty trained. Good luck, is a long process so don't get disappointed. Cosmo took all 11 months to "get it."

| Hi! I have two little girls, littermates. They are now almost 2yrs old and are both crate trained and pee pad trained. It takes a while for potty training and crate training, you need to make the crate a nice cosy place and even then it will still take time. The crate must not be too big for him, otherwise he'll have accidents in his crate. Again it takes time and he will have little mistakes for a while. Food and water around here is never limited at any point in time. Mine are free fed and this works well for me. Once he realizes that the crate is his little "den" area he will stop potting there. Mine would give a little whimper if they had to potty and we would get them out right away to go potty and then back to bed. Don't let them play so that they know the only reason they are out is to potty and then straight back to bed. Also our girls sleep in my sisters room with her and if they make a noise it is easier and quicker to get them out. Plus they feel safe in there. These guys like to be near people. Also I gave our girls a stuffed animal at night ( which they used and still do like a pillow ) and a kong chew toy. I gave them a kong because they can not get pieces out of it and choke. So take care what kind of chew toy you give him at night. Once he gets used to the idea he will find his crate a safe place and want to go in there all the time. Mine go to there crates if we have strangers such as a repair person in the house until they feel comfortable and they do this of their own accord. It takes time for them to get crate trained, and potty trained so just be patient it's worth it. I hope this helps ~Marly

| I have considered setting the alarm clock and get him out, but the weather here is freezing lately, so unappetizing to get motivated to do that. However i do have to make a decision because once again he has been doing well during the day, but at night he goes on the pad sometimes and sometimes off. |
