We have a small little new guy and he cannot make it all night either. Even with as you said the food and before bed potty. His cage is as directed and he just can't make it. So my smart husband found a box to attach to one end and lined it with a pee pad. JJ has done great since then (4 nights) plus on days we are at work he goes into the box. It at least teaches him to go on the pee pad which is not his balnkets or carpet, he doesn't have to lay near it, and we get some sleep.
We have the kennel that open in the front and end. He opened the end and then used plastic ties to put through the box and kennel. The way he placed the box was so that it only opens to the kennel and then is all enclosed so that JJ can't jump out of it.
I hope it helps. We did the same thing with our 11 mo. old Cosmo and he is now completly potty trained.
Good luck, is a long process so don't get disappointed. Cosmo took all 11 months to "get it."
