| I can't help but wonder if YORKIELOVER posted just to respond to my posting on Shadow Creek. Two postings on the site, and no more??? Very strange. |

Did you ask your vet if you do have to scrape the ringworm til it bleeds for the iodine to work?

| I have had EXTENSIVE dealings with ringworm in persian cats...not a yorkie, but as stubborn to treat. I used to rescue persians and place them before I had a son that is allergic to them. Unfortunately, one came in covered in ringworm, which you cannot see in the long haired breed, and I had three cats, a husband, mother and myself infected. I personally had been infected three times form rescues. So, to say I have dealt with the beast in an understatement. My first statement is for the post that asked how your child got infected and suggested that you let him crawl on the floor or play with an infected dog. Research ringworm, and you will find that the ringworm (RW) fungus is a microscopic spore that is transmitted by touch and through the air. Her son simply from being in the house is succeptible and the fact that he is an infant compounds his succeptibility. He did not have to touch the dog to get infected. It could have been as innocent as his mom touching something, not even the dog, that was infected and then touching her son. So, to say that she was careless IMO is unfair. Now, for the treatment that I have used that WORKS. You must treat the WHOLE house. I mean everything. The only medication that I have found to effectively treat the fungus is Sporonox, Lamisil is a joke. You need the big guns here. Sporonox liquid, twice a day for three week...email me for the dosing. Keeping the hair long actually helps keep the spores on the pup and out of the air. Shampoo DAILY with HealthGuard shampoo, that's the pup, but you can use it too. Spray the pup with HEalthGuard spray every other day. Wash your clothes, bedding, and anything else you can wash in the HealthGuard laundry additive, one tablespoon to a large load. Dilute the additive in a spray bottle and spray your house, the whole inside of your house floor to ceiling once a week. Spray your furnace filters. Peace and Kindness from Chris Christensen is a colloidal silver that works OK on small spots. HealthGuard also makes a lotion that is fabulous as it provides a barrier for several hours. I know I sound like I work for the company but I don't...it is just a program that I have used successfully and it works FAST!! SO, I recommend it to those in need, and it sounds like you are in need!! Feel free to PM me or email me for more help and good luck...

As for ringworm, a cat I adopted from a rescue had ringworm. My vet treated her with sulphur baths, I think? (it has been years now, but I remember having to take her in once a week for the dips.) I called the rescue to let them know in case other cats were exposed, and they actually mailed me a check with WELL over what I paid for the adoption fee because they felt so bad that she was adopted out with ringworm. I of course voided the check - I'm not going to take money from a rescue that needs it more than I do, but it is amazing to me that a rescue would offer to try and offer help, and a breeder would not. | |

| I am not sure who you were referring to when you referred to joining to "voice displeasure". Just to clarify, I chose Shadow Creek because this forum gave it good reviews. The reason that I joined was to forewarn others who might have considered buying a puppy from them. In addition, I DID, in fact, do my homework. When I was told that the puppy had a "fungus", I called the breeder's vet to discuss further - at which time, I was told that the fungus was NOT contagious and that I wouldn't be putting my son in jeopardy of getting it. Evidently, I did not speak with the vet in the practice who actually saw my puppy. The one that I did speak with, told me that all I needed to do was to put cream on the spot and it would be gone in a matter of a few weeks. Finally, after months of treating the ringworm to no avail, I spoke with the attending vet. He apologized for clearing the puppy because the breeder definitely knew that it was ringworm and that it was contagious. He has reimbursed me for part of the vet expenses (a very small part). My posting was in no way mean spirited - only a voice of warning to fellow yorkie lovers. |

| I wasn't referring to you - just noting how the other poster was calling the kettle black. That's why I said I didn't blame you and others for being wary. |

| I believe now that the breeder I bought Timmy from was probably duped. I don't think she knew what she was getting into. Apparently, ringworm was running rampant through Shadow Creek. That said, I still think she handled the situation inappropriately - never returning phone calls or emails. The website is no longer in operation and all numbers have been disconnected. My only hope is that they continued to treat the dogs that they had that were infected. I fear the worst! |
