This totally depends on the dog and how many puppies. The puppies already demand calcium from the mother before they are born. (bone formation) We could have lost the mother and all of her puppies if we had not been watching her very closely BEFORE the puppies were born. The mother developed preclampsia and needed an emergency injection of calcium about 5 days before the puppies were born. We had been giving her cheese along with puppy food and this was not enough. The vet told us to supplement before especiallly if we knew the litter would be large. (more demand on mama's body) The puppies will get what they need if it is available (calcium), but they depleted all of hers and almost caused her to die |
I have been following this thread and just wanted to say you are in my thoughts and prayers for an easy delivery. Wow so many exciting things going on her @ YT today I don't wanna leave the computer!:p |
I've been following this thread and I'm so glad you took little Mama to a new vet. It sounds like she got a really good checking out and all the news was good:) Praying for a safe whelping and beautiful, healthy pups. |

Good News! Kelly, so glad Kiley is doing well and you changed vets. This vet sounds much more attentive, and you need all of the assurance that is possible right now. Thinking of you and Kiley throughout the day, and will check mail when I return home tonight. Take care, Deborah |

I'm on pins and needles. I can't imagine how you feel! Good luck tonight - hope it's smooth sailing from here. |
Hi, Have been out of town and just saw this thread. Wow. I am about 40 mins from you (Davie County)... if you need any help do not hesitate to call or write. I can be there in a flash. I have lots of whelping supplies and literature. Will send you a pm with my cell #. Wishing you the best with this. I just can't believe her breeder had no idea she was bred. (or maybe she did, who knows really... I noticed some other breeds advertised on the site so I would not be surprised if your babies come out looking a little different) Sounds like some major irresponsibility was going on there. Sorry had to say that. Best wishes to you and her. |

Checking In Wahoo! Sounds like little Miss Kiley may welcome the pups tonight. So glad others found your post, and you have lots of support now, Kelly. As I said earlier, so glad you have a new vet which makes such a difference in your sweet Kiley's health. Take good care and will check again later this evening. Warmly, Deborah Kiley: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :love-hug3 :love-hug3 |
Just getting in from work and checking to see how everyone is doing...happy to hear that you found a new vet....sounds like she was able to put you at ease (at least a lil bit) :) Patiently waiting and hope that mom delivers tonight....I'm saying 3 boys 1 girl....or 3 boys 2 girls.... |
With Apologies I have been calling you Kelly and your spelling is Kelley. Please accept my apology for not paying attention. -Deborah |
Just To Clarify!!! ok, there has been a HUGE misunderstanding with the entire situation about the kennel where Kiley came from, ABA Kennels. The lady that I picked Kiley up from said somethings that were in no way true. As yall know, I have been emailing the lady at ABA Kennels and she has been nothing but nice about the entire situation. This threw me off entirely due to what I had been told about the conditions at the kennel. After talking with the husband at ABA kennels I have decided to "clean up the mess" with the misinformation that was told to me and then on here. He (cant remember his name, but he is Judy's husband) said that anyone was welcome to come out and see their setup anytime, as it was nothing like I/we were told. He explained that the cages in the pic was where the females had their pups, and also that there are cameras set up in there that feeds to their bedroom where they can see when a mom goes into labor. They are at every delivery. They have runs set up outside where the pups run and play and get exercise. He also said that when a woman not far from him got busted for mistreatment(or something like that....)that the humane society and another organization came in on them and searched every inch of their place trying to find something wrong and didnt. I really am glad I was misinformed about this place, he said he would like for me to come see everything. I think I would like to do this, it sounds like they have a nice setup. I wish they would post pics on their website showing the runs and more of the setup so more people wouldn't get the wrong idea about their place. Once again, even though they probably wont see this, I would like to appologize for the misconceptions about their setup. Oh, and they said that Kiley hadnt had pups in about 4 years so they figured she was done having pups so she had a "cage mate" named Cricket, also a yorkie. She wasnt even showing when we got her, so they had no way of knowing she was preg when she left. |
