Glad to hear mom and babies are doing good! But do be careful with bottle feeding, we have lost a puppy that way before. The milk was coming out the pups nose, and into her lungs (we didn't know this). Maybe try a smaller nipple hole or medicine dropper! Good luck with your new family! Having babies in the house is very hard work (constantly cleaning the bedding, etc.) but is also alot of fun!

Oh, I am so glad that they are finally here. We all have been so worried about Kiley. I know that I have been checking for updates at least hourly! I am glad that Kiley and the babies are ok. Wow what an ordeal I just read the thread and wanted to say congratulations as well.

thanks. they are all doing fine. there is one girl that i am having to feed every hour to two hours. she eats like a little pig with the bottle, but she wont latch onto kiley at all!! theres been a few times ive checked on them and that pup has been behind kiley or kiley has been laying on it. I know that is usually a sign that something could be wrong with the pup but i cant just let her go especially since she seems fine when ive got her with me. she a fat one too!!! The rest are doing great though. Kiley got out of bed sometime lastnight and moved her food bowl closer to her bed (lol), but she is eating pretty good.

As far as spaying affecting the milk - it definitely could. When Rosie had her C-section I requested that she be spayed at the same time and my vet refused saying that by doing so, she may not produce enough milk to feed the puppies, because of the hormones (or lack thereof, after being spayed). So I would recommend that you keep a close eye on their weight, and if they are not gaining a little bit of weight (.5 oz) every day or so, to bottle feed them. And if they lose any weight at all, that is not good - make sure and supplement feed them.

As far as the little girl - keep a close eye on her. My vet told us that mamma dogs may lay on the puppies that the see as "weak" - it is their instinct to not allow puppies to survive that may have a weakness to them. However, we have SOO many things in our modern day to assist puppies, that I have never been in the camp of "let nature takes it course" - I am a fighter for all puppies so I would definitely watch that one to make sure the mom doesn't suffocate it.

Also, and you did not ask about this, but make sure that Kiley (?) is cleaning them. Again from experience :) we almost lost a puppy because until they are several weeks old, they need to be stimulated in order to urinate or pass a bowel movement. Rosie wasn't very good with this on her puppies and so I ended up having to help with this a couple times a day. (For anyone who needs/wants to know how to do this - just dampen some cotton balls with warm water and wipe their behinds until they do their business. this mimics what the mamma does by licking them until they go....)

I hope Kiley is feeling stronger today, and cute story about moving her food bowl closer. Imagine getting up is painful especially when you have pups nursing at the same time.

Sending warm wishes that all of the pups will be able to nurse successfully, Kiley has lots of milk and her tummy heals inside/out. If I lived closer, I could help you with feeding in shifts. However, Seattle is a long way from you. Darn!

i cannot believe the help and support me and kiley have recieved on here, i never expected all this. I thought i may get a few comments, thats it. Yall have been great and we are lucky to have found all of you. we will definately continue to post pics and updates, thank yall soooooo much!!

Just be careful on how much milk/how fast the milk comes out of the bottle...too much at one time can aspirate the lungs. Congrats again!!!

we live in NC. pups are doing very good. kiley doesnt even act like she had surgery, and shes eating REALLY good now.
