I had no idea that the word "teacup" was a NO NO I took it the same as the terms baby face or doll face. I assumed it was just a term used to indicate it's small size.

I don't think it's so much the TERM teacup as much as it is people breeding these tiny babies and selling them for an arm and a leg without taking precautions to health problems they may have, as well as the health risks for one getting pregnant.

I agree with what you say. People should try to help or to answer in a positive way. I do not know anything about breeding but anyway, here there are some web sites of Yorkie breeders in Southern California. I do not know if they have small studs you may want to check with them. Good Luck

Then they breed anyway, not knowing chit, and sell pups that "aren't standard".

You gotta be tough to post in this forum. Don't throw in the towel yet, it's only the end of round one.

I can usually stay till administrations calls the fight cause someone throws a dirty punch.

Yes I understand that. But the original poster did not know that, nor did they know that those tiny ones should not be bred.

We all see them advertised like it's perfectly OK to breed them, so how was she to know. So now instead of learning, she has left and is just as confused as she was when she posted her questions.

Well apparently there are a few breeders that were born knowing all there is to know. They never had a question, or made a mistake. they should be grateful for their gift. the rest of us have to make mistakes and ask questions.

IMO It's like belittleing someone for no knowing how to play a musical instrument.

I am sure that all breeders (famous and not famous) started with lots of questions and perhaps some mistake too. I am not a breeder but I would feel very offended by some of the posts that I have been reading. We are all here to learn and also to share our love and passion for this beautiful breed.

First off I dont know any breeders in California. But I wanted to say Im sorry you had to go through all this. some people on here feel you cant say the word teacup for a small Yorkie, But you can call them any thing you want.I knew what you was getting at. and I knew that there would be some mean post after I saw the word teacup. Theres some that dont know how to help people with out being rude.I would say try and learning every thing you can on breeding before you start. Once you did that then Id say Good Luck.

The same way you know with any other dogs. You look at the pedigree. Just because their color is not standard does not mean they have any greater chance of carrying any other defect than a standard colored one.

Unless you have information on that subject that I am not aware of. If you do, I'd be happy to listen to it.

The AKC accepts Parti coloreds, that is good enough for me.

And you can end up with the same defect in any dog. Do you have information that the non standard colreds have any greater incidence of other health problems, other than the blue ones. If you do I'm interested in hearing it. If you don't then please explain what you are referring to.

I'm willing to listen to any argument that can be backed up with concrete evidence.

If you can't back up what you are saying then you are just posting useless information.

Once again I have to agree with Deb. I don't promote the use of the word teacup...never have, because I have yorkshire terriers or yorkies for short. But un-ethical breeders have pushed the word so strongly all over the internet that the new people sometimes REALLY don't know any better.
There are alot of un-educated new people in EVERY breed. The "breeders" on the forum should have a little more compassion for the new folks...because our breed's preservence lies in their hands if they are determined to become a breeder whether we like it or not. Why not lend a hand instead of ridiculing all the time. I for one try my best to help out new people all the time on the education of this breed. But in all honesty I do it in PM's and emails rather than have them put through the ringer over and over publicly. I'm all for education...and have a strong understanding that if I want to continue on in the world of yorkies to the best of my ability I MUST help those when I see a true need, if not it's doing NOTHING to help the breed in the end. Being a smart elic to a new person really gets no where and does nothing for our breed when all is said and done.

Sometimes the direct approach is great - Bama had a Very good point - and thanks to everyone else for elaborating there is no such thing as a teacup.

It's getting so people get bashed for speaking up when we see the word 'teacup' (not this thread - just in general) - but it's NOT A Yorkie size - and people need to hear that. I remember when I was looking for my FIRST yorkie & reading up on them - within one day I knew there was no such thing as a Teacup yorkie -

I think PMing a person to point out thier mistakes is an excellent idea. It's the public belittleing and poking fun at a person for asking an innocent question that makes them run off.

I have spent manymany hours on the computer and on the telephone trying to help new people that doesn't know much. In general, my experience has been, most of the time they want to breed on their terms, don't want to learn the reputable way of getting into YOrkies, don't want to have contracts or be mentored. they'll argue with me telling me I don't know squat and they aren't about to do anything I suggest to help them.
Many just want to breed, don't care about the quality of what they have they want to breed. It is getting so far worse right now with these types trying to get their hands on champion lines for no other reason than they are going to ask more money for any resulting pups. Then they get miffed when a reputable show breeder is not about to let them do that with their line.
There are many many posts on this forum about breeding and why you shouldn't breed your pet. Many places to find information about what a good YOrkie should look like and how to determine if it should be bred.
All that is ignored for the most part.
So do excuse me if I get impatient and sometimes get nasty as I get to the point where I know there are so few I am going to get through to anyway.
Sure I had to start somewhere but at least I was smart enough to listen to what I was told by long time reputable breeders and was smart enough to look at their dogs, see quality and strive for it myself.
