| ![]() Whoa I just saw Mia's and my name in this post! ![]() I love my Mia but as I tell everyone who emails me or PMs me about her she has a lot of health problems that Emmy doesn't have. She has a terrible congestion/snorting she gets all the time, its almost like an asthma attack, and I have gone to 4 different vets on the subject and they all say its probably partly because of her shorter snout, partly from bad breeding. If you talk to Maryann about her Raven she will tell you the same thing, her Raven has some health problems as well typical of the tinies. This whole phenomenon of breeding for baby faces is beyond me, its just asking for trouble IMO! |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | ![]() I agree Britt...When I posted ...I was thinking how I would be as a breeder ...I happen to think there is a trend to create EXTREME doll faces now...and to me ...it's NOT a good thing - I know you didn't intentionally look for EXTREME when you found Mia - and Mia is GORGEOUS ...but I know the more they breed to get that look ...the more they stray away from the look we all love.... PS.....When I posted earlier - I wasn't talking about colors...biewers or anything - I was talking about intentionally breeding to change a yorkies 'look' and things seem to get off track easily sometimes - Intentional face changes in yorkies is what we were talking about - not the color variations in yorkies...i.e. Biewers - chocolates and other "yorkies". |

| ![]() To be honest when I picked Mia out I thought she was a normal-sized and normal-looking yorkie! She was only 4 or 5 weeks old so all the littermates looked the same. Little did I know what I was in for! |

| ![]() I went to the website for the baby doll face and i agree they look like ewoks. Not that ewoks aren't cute. that was my favorite star wars movie. i love those little guys. but my little boy has a more standard terrier head. I had a wire fox terrier growing up and his face reminds me a lot of hers. I just can't get over how cute i personally think his head is. You can go to my gallery and judge for yourself (i don't know how to shrink pictures yet). But again it's just my opinion it's what i like the best.

| ![]() I think Hannah looks alot like Cheri (my opinion anyway) & if she ends up anything like Cheri I would be tickled pink. But Hannah's hair don't grow very fast compared to the other pups in the litter. She has the shortest hair.

| ![]() Brittany~ I am so sorry to hear about Mia's health issues. That is just terrible. Did any of the vets you saw diagnose her with Brachycephalic Airway Syndrome? Believe me, I did my homework when I was looking for my Avalon because I wanted a healthy baby first and foremost as we all do. Just to let everyone what I am talking about...Brachycephalic Airway Syndrome is common in Pugs and Pekinese and they can have stenotic nares (closed nostrils), elongated palates, or everted laryngeal saccules. If any of you have ever been around those breeds you know that they sometimes snore excessively, they may ckoke or gag a lot, their breathing is noisy, they breathe with their mouths open and sometimes they are unable to exercise due to difficulty breathing. The reputable breeders who breed for the babydoll face yorkie are very careful to avoid the potential for this syndrome in their lines. Just as any good breeder breeds for superb health and temperament, and breeds out any health problems. Breeders who have been breeding for this "look" for a very long time because it is what THEY preferred, are very careful not to go so short on the snouts as to allow this situation common with pekinese and pugs to occur in their yorkies. These breeders are concerned about their reputations and they wouldn't have the good names that they do if these abnormalites kept appearing in their puppies. They also are careful with the eyes and they breed for BIG eyes but not "bulgy" eyes. I apologize for using Mia and Raven as healthy adult examples of the babydoll look as I was unaware of her health issues. Maryann's website says "Raven is very healthy and has no health problems". I do not know Maryann personally as Brittany does so I was going by what her website said. Olivier's beautiful Venus is a stunning example of an adult with the "look" we are discussing. Thank you for sharing her photo with us. |

| ![]() This is one where debating is fruitless... its strickly a matter of opinon. I too, am guilty of loving the baby doll face, I wouldn't want one bred to the extreme where there is a health issue, But, if I had my choice between a healthy long snout and a healthy short snout I would go with the short snout because I like that baby look even when they grow to adults. But, That's what I like. My Desi does not have a baby doll face and it makes no difference to me.. I adore her the way she is. I have also seen some mighty beautiful yorkies on this forum that are not baby doll faced and are none-the-less stunning. It's all preference... |
