Brittany~ I am so sorry to hear about Mia's health issues. That is just terrible. Did any of the vets you saw diagnose her with Brachycephalic Airway Syndrome? Believe me, I did my homework when I was looking for my Avalon because I wanted a healthy baby first and foremost as we all do.
Just to let everyone what I am talking about...Brachycephalic Airway Syndrome is common in Pugs and Pekinese and they can have stenotic nares (closed nostrils), elongated palates, or everted laryngeal saccules. If any of you have ever been around those breeds you know that they sometimes snore excessively, they may ckoke or gag a lot, their breathing is noisy, they breathe with their mouths open and sometimes they are unable to exercise due to difficulty breathing.
The reputable breeders who breed for the babydoll face yorkie are very careful to avoid the potential for this syndrome in their lines. Just as any good breeder breeds for superb health and temperament, and breeds out any health problems. Breeders who have been breeding for this "look" for a very long time because it is what THEY preferred, are very careful not to go so short on the snouts as to allow this situation common with pekinese and pugs to occur in their yorkies. These breeders are concerned about their reputations and they wouldn't have the good names that they do if these abnormalites kept appearing in their puppies.
They also are careful with the eyes and they breed for BIG eyes but not "bulgy" eyes.
I apologize for using Mia and Raven as healthy adult examples of the babydoll look as I was unaware of her health issues. Maryann's website says "Raven is very healthy and has no health problems". I do not know Maryann personally as Brittany does so I was going by what her website said.
Olivier's beautiful Venus is a stunning example of an adult with the "look" we are discussing. Thank you for sharing her photo with us. |
