That is really sad. Poor little thing. But again I say thank you for letting some of us in on better methods. I too, now have a prescrip for my self and "anything" that may happen that is out of my control. Thank you.

Pat ...that WAS awful to read let alone see in person...and you ARE a great friend. That doesn't surprise me at all that you did that and I think you offered very valuable help to this thread...

Euthanasia is a hard thing to think about ....but your idea about having something on hand (Valuim) for cases like this really is the most humane way to deal with a suffering puppy. You probably will never know how many people will remember this thread and possibly be in this situation one day...this will stand out in their minds.

That scenario is exactly the type of situation I was referring to. Now I know there is a way to stop the suffering, because the screaming would be more than I could deal with. Like I said, I'd use a hammer if I had to, but the valium sounds like a much better way.

Do Dr's just prescribe them if you ask? Could a vet prescribe them? I can't imagine just walking in and asking my Dr. for a prescription of valium to have on hand for my dogs.

I hardly think resorting to a hammer would be your only option That's just insanely cruel and I can't imagine hitting a puppy over the head with a hammer. I just couldn't do it, personally.

I would never use a hammer disgusts me thinking about it.All you have to do is ask the vet the worst he or she will say is no! They might have other options for you also.I would never be afraid to ask my vet anything even if I felt stupid about asking it, they might laugh and look at ya funny but who cares when it comes to the well being of our pets.

I was supportive of your question until this point. A hammer?! So, you really think that would be less painful? Sorry, as a wildlife rehabber for over 30 years, that is just too inhumane.

Default I feel someone owes me an apology

This woman needs to be removed from this site. Why should I be bullied out of here because I expressed my feelings! Now everyone is seeing her for what she is! A hammer now? What next? A meat cleaver? I AM FURIOUS WITH YORKIETALK FOR ALLOWING THIS! THEY DEFEND THIS WOMAN AND DELETE MY MESSAGES FOR CRITICIZING HER.

First the disclaimer.

This is not a put down to anyone who has asked a question, because they did not know the answer. This is for all those who do put down people for asking questions.

I have been criticized, called stupid and uneducated and cruel, by people who are totally ignorant of the hard cruel side of breeding, for repeating something that I read in a book, on breeding, and asking a question about it.

There are members out there who don't understand why a 16 week old puppy is smart enough to demand that they be played with, but yet are not smart enough to ask to be let out to potty.

My question was just as valid as those. And if you want my honest and true opinion on the whole freezing thing. I believe I would shoot it or hit it over the head with a hammer before I would allow it to lie screaming in pain, because if I were screaming in pain and there were no drugs available and no Dr's to be found, I would rather someone shoot me.

Of course I would take it to a vet if it were possible. But anything would be desirable to letting it scream. I'd probably not sleep afterwards, but I would be strong enough to do what I had to do to end the poor things suffering as quickly as possible.

This forum belongs to everyone, not a select few. The members on here with the largest number of posts are not the problem. It's the handful of people that come in with a know it all attitude, that think they need to be cruel and sarcastic to fit in with the "popular kids". Those are the ones that run off any newbie that poses a possible threat to their position. Well kids, we aren't in highschool anymore.

No wonder so many newbies leave. The bullies run them off.

Ok I've said my piece and will get down off of my soapbox. So go ahead and say what you wish. I'm not going away, and those of you who continue with you criticizing are just showing your own ignorance and mentality level.

Thank you for letting me get that off my chest. I was seriously considering quitting the forum, until I realized that I would be playing right into their hands.

And thanks to all of you who defended my right to ask a question.
I thought I was finished with this thread, but I didn't want to let this post pass without adding my support.

I remember a thread about puppy tails and it wasn't until I read a post about twisting off the tails that I knew anyone did this. It sounds like a common practice, but it sounded so cruel. It never would've occurred to me to question someone's right to post that. It was informative.

JeanieK, you have earned my respect by keeping your head, and speaking your truth.

Allowing the suffering to continue is inhumane.

I hope if medication or a vet's assistance isn't available that a much more humane method than a hammer would be used. It would be disturbing enough without crushing a puppy's head. I understand not being able to tolerant a crying/screaming in pain pup, but I know hitting it is just something I could never ever do. I think better "restort only" options would be placing a pillow over it's head or drowning, as awful as those thoughts are too.

Personally, if I were to breed, I'd make the necessary arrangements to prevent such a last resort scenario, including any additional costs of having "someone" on call without necessarily needing their services.

This thread makes me very sad......

I completely agree. I think this thread was unnecessary. I understand people's need to learn and ask questions, but NO ONE should become a breeder if they can't make necessary emergency arrangements incase there is a "blizzard or snowstor" as the OP put it. With that said, this thread is useless. I had apologized to the OP for any personal attacks but I hardly think she should get applause or get commended for her thread. She is being commended for standing up in what she believes in yet when we offer opinions that differ, no one commends that. So we're now applauding people who would resort hitting a puppy over the head with a hammer?? I'm sorry, but I would never offer my applause for someone like that

I think using a hammer to end a pups life is extremely cruel. I am surprised that someone says they would do something like this.

For the love of pete cut Jeanie some slack here.. I don't think she meant she'd ACTUALLY slam a hammer over a pups head..she is figure of speaching it. If I"m correct she is saying anything is better than watching a pup scream in pain dying a slow painful death.
I lived next door to a lady that her little nephew actually put her bunny in the microwave and turned it on. The little boy didn't know what he was doing cause he was only 2 or 3 I think. Anyway she comes running over to my house screaming with this bunny with it's insides boiling. What did I do. I ran outside with the bunny and swung it. I didn't like doing it. I cried doing it. But something had to be done and quickly. What jeanie is asking is what methods can be used to euthanize a puppy if that puppy can't be taken to a vet? She is asking BREEDERS that know what to do. Just think if she hadn't came on here and asked this question..she would of thought that putting the pup in a freezer is a proper method..the vet did it so why shouldn't she. But jeanie wasn't so sure that was the right thing to do (it wasn't sitting right with her) so she did what any of us would do..she came on here to ask "hey is that whats done or is there another way?"
Jeanie I think you had a legit question. I feel bad for you that were treated so badly for asking. But keep in mind that not all of us on here are like that. There are alot of us on here that would gladly answer questions without judging or criticizing. I hope you got some answers..
