| It's kind of disheartening that we want people to come here and learn from us but if the wrong person asks a question it is considered an invasion of privacy to breeders. So, I want even more in depth answers. As a breeder what precautions to you take to limit the danger to your females? What are the kinds of things that can and have gone wrong? What did you learn from it? Can you explain what makes your program vs. someone with 21 females in their kennell different? What makes buying from you any different? Just so you know...I know you are different. But I believe the vast majority of people are just starting to learn that petshops are not a good place to go. To me that is just the tip of the iceburg. The treatment and care of females is HUGE. It should be a top concern for every buyer but how can it be if you can't explain the problems you encounter and the care you take? People show up here every day thinking about breeding or buying a puppy. Part of your mission should be teaching them to come to responsible people. Otherwise this is just a place to share bragging rights and make fun of people you disagree with. |

I can hit all of the breeders on here and get responses quickly from one thread...I would have to get on the phone and call all of the breeders I know and I will do that if the answer is not given here, but I assumed with all of these breeders here that I would get the answer quickly. I come here to talk about and learn about yorkies as we al do. Last edited by SoCalyorkiLvr; 01-12-2006 at 11:58 AM.

| Your quest is confusing to say the least, I wonder your motives when you are so well read. You boast you brought Theriogeneoligist to light on this board I might suggest you take the list I recently posted gathering your own statistics.

Hey do you have a bitch in whelp? Do you have puppies you need to save? If not why don't we let this forum remain available for "Breeder Talk" which I understood was for breeders to OFFER aid and assistance. Not answer theory. Not many of us have the answers for the theory of breeding or the "risk of breeding" we do not have time for that extensive of a study. We're too busy taking care of our bitches or puppies and checking in here once in a while to see if someone really needs help or advice for a bitch in crisis. Can we please get back to that purpose?.......thanks

I offer this completely off topic question that does NOT have to be answered: If it had been ANYONE ELSE but SoCalYorkie who had asked this, would you "offended" people be reacting so strongly? I think not.

| I understand the risk involved in breeding. I have dealt with this exact topic in real life. I have lost my best friend due to my choice, not hers, to breed her. It has left an emotional scar on my heart that I will have to deal with the rest of my life. It all but made me throw in the towel and say "no more". But as I began to see things more clearly, I understood that throwing in the towel would leave me even more empty in the long run because it would be giving up on my dream. I really think that God threw me a curve ball for a reason. As a breeder, what I went through as hard as it may be has actually taught me a valuable lesson for the continuation of my program. I am not perfect and I feel to this day that I made a mistake by not having an x-ray on that litter. I will always feel this way. I will never make that mistake again. If I were to ever lose another of my females due to a breeding, I would rest assured that I did all that I could. There is a risk anytime an amimal is bred. As breeders, we all understand this risk and we pray to not have to face it or see any of our fellow breeders have to go through it. All we can do is continue to strive and do what we love. If we didn't take that risk, I think our lives and the lives of many others would be really empty. |

| Someone that has NEVER bred a yorkie does NOT know the many sleepless nights we have.. You also do not know how many family gathering we miss to stay home and take care of our mamas, puppies and expecting mamas! If we are a reputable breeder we spend hours on hours researching our pedigrees before we EVER breed two yorkies together! I could go on and on! There is a risk everytime we breed, but most of us have done our homework and know what we need to do if an emergency comes up! We also have vets that are wonderful and gives our yorkies the best of care.. A good breeder goes hand in hand with a even better vet! But I also believe that everything happens for a reason.. I honestly do not think it will matter what our responses are to this thread! Until you have lived in our world you will not know what we go through as breeders and what our thoughts are everytime we breed a female and help her whelp a litter of puppies.. JMHO.. |
