| I agree with Taylor as far as the dew claws. Uni doesn't have hers, Toto has his. They are a PITA to clip. And I've seen many dogs who aren't routinely groomed and the dew claws grow so long they look like macaroni, or worse, curl back into the skin. If the pups are already having the tails docked, they may as well have the dew claws done at the same time. After a few days old, it can no longer be done. Also if they pups don't have the dew claws securely attached they can rip out on carpet. Much more painful than the clip when they are newborns. Tail docking is still widely expected on yorkies here in the US. I know if the dog is not being shown, it's pretty much pointless. But yorkie full tails are pretty thin and when the dog doesn't hold the tail all the way up, it's very thin and prone to break if stepped on. I believe that is the reason why they docked it in the first place, back in the day, to prevent injury when the dogs were used as ratters.

| As much as I love YT, some members are so aggressive and rude. The original poster is asking for help! Why can't we just offer her help, advise and encouragement or just don't comment at all. She needs help more than she needs scolding! How dare you! My advise is to recommend that you hire a local teen who wants to make a few dollars after school to help you manage this unusually large litter. They can help you feed them, clean up after them and even socialize them. You may also occasionally just need a break to relax! I just whelped a litter of 4 on 12/2 and that's even a lot of work ahead of me. Don't let these folks run you away. There are more helpful people on the YT than there are non-helpful! I may not have the best solution for you but I will never say anything to discourage or harm you!

| I MUST be having major computer problems again! I am trying to read all these "aggressive and rude" posts, and for the life of me, these are not showing up on my computer in this thread!!! All I am seeing are posts offering advice and encouragement and help, with a couple of posts begging the OP to stay.....I dont see a post where she threatened to leave! I see absolutely NOTHING "rude or aggressive"...... I do see there has not been an update on the babies since 11/30.....lots of concerned well wishers sincerely waiting for an update on this huge litter! |

Pfeiffer has her dew claws and I have no problems whatsoever with them - ya just clip them when you do the rest of the claws and that's that. I asked my vet if they should've been removed back when she was going to be spayed and she said no - that's it's truly not necessary for dog to have dews removed unless perhaps they are hunting dogs, and even then it's not really necessary bc all one has to do is keep them short/properly cut and they're out of the way. Simple.

It will be great when everyone gets with the times re: the changes in standards of medical advice where claws and tails are concerned. I know the tides are changing..slowly, but surely! | |
