Hello everyone! 9 puppy litter. Has anyone else Hello. We recently joined. Our Yorkie just had 9 puppies. We have standard size ckc yorkies puppies. I was just curious as to what I should sell the puppies for? And any other tips for us as this is our first litter and first time breeding...? Thanks everyone! |

I wish I had a wealth of knowledge to give you, but I will just say this, as I'm inexperienced...talk to your vet. As far as I have seen, not ever having bred a dog, your planning should begin well before the welping of pups. Good luck with the puppies, and the parents. Keep us updated. |
Wow NINE puppies? The largest litter I'd seen personally was 7 and oh boy did those people want to get rid of those dogs quick. The puppies really need to stay with mom until at the VERY least 8 weeks, but 12 weeks is best. Actually it's illegal in most states to sell puppies younger than 6 weeks, and that's not doing the puppy any favors either. They learn so many puppy manners from mom and litter mates between 8-12 weeks. But you are past a major milestone. Mom gave birth and she and the pups survived. That said, CKC registry is not a reputable registry, unless of course we are talking Canadian Kennel Club, but I see you are in the US, so Continental Kennel Club? The only registry that is legitamate in the US is the AKC and even then not all dogs with AKC papers are up to breed standard. But to answer your question.... knowing what I know now, I would not pay more than a few hundred dollars for a non AKC pure bred yorkie pup, knowing I could adopt one from a reputable rescue. Let me tell you I was a fool and WAY overpaid for my non AKC yorkie in 2007 who has sparse hair, too long legs, unlevel topline, wrong coloring, big ears, long muzzle, with LP grade 2-3. I love her more than anything, but man was I taken. Again, saying what I know now, I could have gotten a show quality yorkie for that price. |
Try to find a mentor that has a lot of breeding experience. |
CKC is not a reputable Kennel Club...AKC is the only reputable Kennel Club in the US. 9 pups...WOW......since your pup is not AKC do her and yourself a favor and get her spayed. Please find a reputable breeder in your area to assist you with all things baby yorkies. f.y.i. Your posts will be moderated until you reach 10 posts. |
This is the largest Yorkie litter I have every heard of . . you and mamma are certainly in for an long exhausting experience. Its very important that you keep momma hydrated and will need to feed her several (4-5) small meals per day so that she can produce the amount of milk that she will need to provide for her babies. You may even need to bottle feed the smallest of the litter to assure that they too are eating and thriving. It may help you to keep track by weighing them each day. Good Luck and please keep us posted!! |
It would be wise to stay acutely aware of moms calcium level. With such an over sized litter, you are more than likely going to witness eclampsia. I am sure you did not get a baseline calcium level before whelping. It would be prudent for you to closely follow that calcium level now, with frequent checks. |
CKC is not a reputable registery they will register any thing by whatever you say it is so you can't even know for sure there pure yorkies because some one could have registered there dog as a yorkie when it wasn't a full yorkie. Please make sure you sell them with a spay and neuter contract. |

Add cottage cheese to her diet, let her eat as often as she wants to, keep the pups warm and let her feed them in two or three batches if you can. She ultimately will let you know what she needs. Make sure that she has access to water at all times, but not where the pups can get into the bowl. We all had to start someplace, I've had Yorkies for over thirty years and made mistakes, like everyone else. If you want to continue in the breed and learn, find a good mentor or two. |
Good luck with your puppies . I'm a new yorie mommy so I'm just learning too. I know they will bring you many laughs and melt your . I love little boy to death and hope to have a little girl one day too. Only I won't be a breeder mom way to much work for me. Enjoy your mom and babies |
