You may have to supplement the pups if the momma is not producing enough milk. Please seek guidance from someone knowledgeable in your area. Your vet could be very helpful also. As for what to ask for the puppies, it really depends on the area your live in. Around here ckc puppies go for around $400 to $600 depending on size. Smaller sized yorkies go for more. Please keep us updated on how the puppies do.

| Thank you to all the positive responses on here and pm. Many were quick to warn me of the negativity on this sight. I wish it wasn't that way... but thank you to the positive ppl. I do take your suggestions into consideration very strongly. To those with unkind words I pray you have an extra blessing of grace that you may show it to others. God bless you all. I will stick around for the time being. |

| Wow! 9 babies! I'm glad as humans that's not very common haha I do agree that with that many pups being so small herself you will need to be vigilant that she is eating a good amount of food drinking lots of water and she will need extra calcium....the vet I worked for did injections of it to ensure it was helpful to mama. I am sure it is going to be a long 12 weeks for you and your little mama!! I hope things go smooth for you all!!! Please keep us updated with photos as you learn to maneuver the site! I think most everyone here has good intentions...and there is definately lots and lots of knowledge here! I hope you stick around :-) |

Hopefully, your stay here will be permanent, and not just "for the time being".....there is a wealth of knowledge, given with concern and interest and compassion and love and grace. If a post is worded in a way you are not able to learn from or benefit from, skip over it, rather than taking it as a personal assault! When a topic is addressed with a negative response, such as puppy mills, specific breeding facilities, methods of shipping/transporting pets, different methods of doing things in different ways, certain registeries, etc, the information shared is to inform a poster of an aspect they may not have been aware of, and not an attack on the poster! If you do not know something, and no one tells you, then you STILL do not know about it and an opportunity at educating someone, is missed! This forum is like everything else public we deal with everyday....some people we smile at and walk past, others we engage in conversation. Fortunately, many people that do not participate actively on the forum, continue to read the posts and continue to learn very valuable information that helps them with their pet...... and that is really why this site exists. It is really worrisome when the only negative things and warnings given, can only be said about other members on this board. When it reaches the point that specific pitfalls pet owners encounter on a daily basis, as they try to move around and utilize and question information and advice that is regurgated on the internet, cant be pointed out and cautioned against without members being accused of attacking posters, being unkind, being nasty or other untrue comparisons, this site looses half of its necessity to even exist. | |

Please be aware of the signs of eclampsia (calcium deficiency). If your momma starts panting excessively and gets very restless that is the first sign. If she starts shaking and staggering then get her to the vet immediately. Eclampsia is life threatening for the momma.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Welcom Jim/Woogie Man. Dear OP Jim has a fair amount of breeding experience and his advice is always clearly put.. I do hope you contact him. It is very hard to know what you know and quite literally books are written about whelping and raising a litter of puppies. : Your mamas health is of prime importance : feed frequently, add a calcium supplement - get her calcium levels checked right now is not too soon, and then ask your vet the amount of calcium you should be giving her daily. Often a scrambled egg contains enough calcium with a normal sized litter, how-ever we don't know the weight of your female, and it is best to find out what her calcium levels are. Then start your supplementation. Puppies should be weighed daily and you should have a means of identifying which pup is which. Your room should be at about 85 degrees - pups this young can't regulate their body temperature, draft free environment. I would have a cot in the whelping room, to make sure pups are kept warm all night. You should know how and when to stimulate your puppies development; Dr Carmen Battaglia has some wonderfull free articles, just go to their website. When you are at the vet have him show you how to tube feed. Better to learn it now, then trying to learn it in the middle of the night. Again here is another good website :Volhard Dog Training and Nutrition: Behavior and Training: Behavior If you don't have your vet on speed dial, assign #1 to him, also gps your nearest emergency ER. Good luck with your litter! In terms of pricing; varies too much across the country, I have no idea if the parents are champions, have had all the pre screening breed specific tests, what their conformation is like and their temperament etc. Given that you are a first time breeder who likely did not have a waiting list, you may end up having to give away the puppies to suitable homes. Also of course you should have prepared a puppy questionnaire for potential buyers to fill out, this is your first screening tool. Buyers will want to know what kind of health guarantee you are offering, and what your contract looks like. You shall a busy few months indeed.

| I wish the best for momma and her babies. It is nice to see so many experienced breeders here offering good advice. Breeding sounds like a lot of work. I know I myself couldn't do it. I hope you will keep us updated on the puppies progress. My best to you too. I would love to see pictures!

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Sorry but what is *declaring*? Do you actually mean dew claw removal?

| Did the vet recommend dew claw removal? I know my Yorkie had her dew claws removed and she has trouble holding bones to gnaw on them. I wish she could hold her milk bone type treats like my other dog can. I know people here have differing opinions about it. Some get them removed so they won't get caught up in things. I have never had that happen but some people have. Just thought you might want to do a search and maybe read through some of those threads. I might be in the minority on this subject. There are also threads you might want to look at about tail docking. Some breeders are not docking tails. Just a couple of things to think about.
