On the subject of food-did you say she eats raw, and used to a raw diet? I would recommend slowly switching her to a "cooked" version, and most especially after pups are borne I would want her on cooked food - this is to diminish any risks to puppies. A raw food diet can contain bacteria that would not be healthy for young pups.

Puppy food I don't start until the last week, and I agree no calcium supplements now, but for sure after whelping. A nice scrambled egg has all (usually) all the calcium she will need, as an additive to her food.

I agree that travelling with this pregnant dog is quite frankly so risky I would not even see it as an option.
Breeders quite simply stay home unless there is a life or death emergency, and we usually have a few breeder friends we can ask to help out

Your vet either the new one or the old one, may be able to suggest a breeder who would be either
a) willing to whelp your dog at their house and keep the newborns through the critical 2wk period- and if so I would board the dog with her starting at least one week before due date.
b) willing to be available to you 24/7 to whelp this litter at your home.
c) they might also be willing to loan you the use of their whelping equipment so that you don't have to go out and get everything.
d) refer you to a reproduction vet who may have the facilities and offer this service to you.

Alternatively you can look up a Toy Breed club in your state/area, and contact breeders through them, who might be willing to offer their services.

In either case if you are not going to be physically present you will need to make arrangements of a financial nature with a vet in case of whelping emergencies, and the visit on the second day for dewclaw removal and or tail docking. Plus puppies need their wellness checks.
Plus of course your whelping coach should be paid as well.

I truly urge you to move heaven and earth now to get the help you will need.

There is just so much to share about danger signs, preventative care, that it is hard to even begin. There are how-ever many many threads on here about breeding that have much good information on them.

I can't read through all the threads right now...plus the whole thing has me a little annoyed..see I love Yorkies, I love all animals, I'm not a freak...but I've learned that you have to treat them like they were the living breathing important pets that they are...you wouldn't put off taking your child for a checkup etc.,so in the nicest kindest way, your lackadaisical attitude is a little unsettling to me...please stick around YT and read, learn and make some new friends...your at an advantage right now...you found us, use us, please!

If you don't get ahold of the breeder for help try to get ahold of another breeder, someone or stay home and close to YT, because the situation is not as simple as you think. An emergency can arise quickly putting the life of your beloved pet and pups at risk. I'm sorry, right now you need to get educated fully!

Honestly, I really hope this works out, if your dedicated to your dog, as she is to you, it will!

Easter dinner we thought we might have a whelping problem, and one of our breeder friends who wasn't with us because her girl was due, called in the middle of supper - 3 born nicely - and then STALL - with at least 2 more pups to go. Thankfully after just over an hour - when we were packing up to go over to her house - she started again! Ohew successfull whelp and beautiful babies.

Whelping quite simply takes precedence over almost everything.

I am actually in Blue Springs Missouri. When the vet told me I had to do it rectally I was like ummmm how? My human babies I used an ear thermometer and my youngest is going on 18 and we never had female dogs. We had a male pitbull mix from pup till he passed from old age. When we moved to Missouri we decided to get a lapdog we could actually take places with us. So far her favorite place is Starbucks. lol

I personally do at day 3 I truly don't like waiting until day 5. But let see how the toy breeders weigh in here. I breed large breed.

Also your whelping coach might advise you to be the first appt of the day, or conversely the last.

Well, there you go! I am offering to whelp for you. I am 2 hours North of KC but can meet you. I would like her a few days early so she gets used to me. It's a scary time for 1st timers.

I like to use a digital thermometer that is wide on one end. It has a digital readout and it beeps when it is ready. Be sure to lubricate it with a little ky jell. I will just lay the female in my lap when I take her temperature.
