| is there a puppy food suggestion since she is so picky? I want to get her the healthiest food we can within reason since we don't really have the time to order it over the internet so it would have to be available at the pet store. Thank You. |

| Another thing you can do is start a thread in Health and diet section and ask for some brand names of high quality puppy foods. There are quite a few people on here that really know their foods and the ingredients

| Thank You Chachi, I know a lot of dog foods but puppy food I do not since they were already past the puppy food stage when we figured out that supposedly high end dog food like Pedigree, Iams, and Science Diet actually wasn't good for them and we had to do lots of research to find what is actually good and what isn't. I also know that puppies and mommy's need different things than adult dogs. |

| Merrick carries a puppy food that you might want to try if she likes that brand. I feed mine Chicken Soup Puppy food. It is a good quality food. Also Natural Balance makes a good puppy food. Whatever you decide to switch her to just do it slowly. I give all of my nursing mommas canned Pedigree Healthy Digestion and canned Pedigree Lamb and Rice puppy food mixed together in their dry food. Some of my mommas will eat only the canned food after they have had puppies. It seems that they are all different. Some will only eat if they are hand fed.

| Whoa Boy... Where to start.. 1st of all; Welcome to Yorkie Talk! I feed Royal Canin puppy during pregnancy. They also have a pregnancy food that you feed during the 1st 42 days, but we are too late for that. It's OK to give the cottage cheese prior to whelp. You can give calcium through food prior to whelp, but not supplements. Mine usually whelp at 61 days, so be ready. I think you have 3 choices. None of them would be take her with you. It's added stress, more people around, the excitement of a new baby, and just a bad idea! I am fairly certain you could lose pups, mom or everyone if you take her with you. With all honesty, Yorkies are not easy. Some get low calcium prior to whelp, several stop labor with 1 left to go, needing a Section for the last, some get low calcium if they drop their milk too quick after whelp, some pups get twisted and need help being born, some Moms don't dialate good, and need help getting pup out, about 1/2 are born bum 1st which may need pulling, and some get infection from the placenta retained, so "how hard can it be" is VERY HARD! 1. I would contact your Vet, and see if there is a Yorkie or toy dog breeder in your area that you could contact to see if she could whelp for you. What State are you from? I may know someone in your area. 2. I would contact your Vet, and see if the tech or they could whelp for you. 3. I know I'm a little obsessed, but my family knows my Yorkies are priority. I had a Grand-daughter born February 12th, of this year, and I missed the birth! I am responsible for the lives of my Yorkies, and I had a litter due, so I didn't go until it was safe, babies born, and 3 days old. You are responsible too for the lives of your Mom and babies. You may have to go after she whelps if you don't find someone. Let me know if I can help you find someone. Good Luck! |

We are located in Blue Springs, our vet is about an hour and 1/2 away but he is on call to help us through anything or if she gets into trouble but he said she looks healthy enough to be fine, I just don't want to take any chances. The main reason I want to wait is because I'd rather she have her babies where she is comfortable AND to get the tails docked and dew claws done when they are supposed to be done, not later.

I was going to tell the OP this very thing....my home and I go on lock down when babies are due...I go NO where for any reason, and no one comes onto the property from a week before the mom is due to whelp until the babies are 10 weeks old and have 2 puppy shots in them......like you, these are my babies, MY responsibility, and they come first....everyone in the family knows, accepts, and appreciates my passion.....they know me well!
