| If you don't know this stuff and the females owner does not know this stuff you both should not be breeding.

OP, hope the doggies are safe and that you're able to handle the huge task of breeding. I'm not a breeder, so I can't offer any advice. However, you're in great hands with Carmen!

What in the world can this poor unfortunate female expect in the way of quality assistance/knowledge from her "breeder/owner" during her pregnancy and whelping, should she need it? What is the purpose of this breeding? Few people intentionally load their pockets full of rocks, then jump into the deep end of the pool, not knowing how to swim.....unfortunately, most people are under the misguided impression that CORRECT, RESPONSIBLE, ETHICAL, AND COMPASSIONATE breeding is nothing but throwing two dogs of the opposite sex together and they and Mother Nature will take care of the rest. Unfortunately, breeding done in this manner, and jumping into water not knowing how to swim, yeilds the same results....somebody will probably pay with their life, and it is unfortunately, usually the most innocent of the group. | I actually have been researching the breeding of yorkies for over two years and now its my time to breed two champion bloodline dogs (bolth dogs compliment each other very nicely and are a great represntation of the breed) I know how to deliver puppies and if neededthe female will be brought for a c-section... just i never thought that they would not tie im sorry just asking for advice .... And puppys will be given to FAMILY...(very good homes) Last edited by Giorgio Armani; 04-02-2013 at 09:59 AM. |

I hear ya! But they are on their way already. I want both to be safe. OP I breed large breed dogs, and we never have less than two "helpers" and sometimes three, depending upon the dogs involved. First is safety for your female and male. Level the heights but not with a towel, something firm and non slip. You can direct the males' thrust, and the other person holds the female's head still and body in place. And btw Flagging as I very well know doesn't mean that particular female wants to breed with any Tom Dick or Harry. If they tie. DO NOT LEAVE ALONE!. Re-assure and keep both male and female still ie not travelling away from each other, as you might know the female releases the Male from the tie. Just be patient, that release can take 10 or more minutes. Let the female relax after the tie, and that usually means removing the male from the scene. I hope this helps

| I have not had this problem...it is usually my maidens that want NO part of that deal that give me grey hairs! I think when she is "standing" ready, it will happen....alot of males do not like to have you "assisting" and will shut down if you try anything "hands on"....but there again, I have not had to deal with this issue. |

Safety first for both dogs is so in-grained in my large dog mind, I just always go there. My large males never shut down for me, but then again, they are obedience trained with lots of handling, and for our breed submission (gladly) to the owner is in trained. But seriously for my breed, I think I will go with AI from now on. The other more "natural" way is so fraught with risk as compared to AI. I just hope that that pair get through their breeding safely!
