She is still very active running around and my boys are acting like she is in heat??? Is this normal?? I think I have everything ready at least I have combed through this breeders section and done everything you guys have told me so I hope I have done enough... |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | first congratulations to you and sending good vibes for your girl for a fast a safe whelping.. since she is due in a few days, I hope you are all ready... my girls tend to slow down as the day gets closer, and no my studs are your tipical males, once the deed is done they move on to other more interesting to them things like chewing and playing..lol hugs, |

| All breeders do things a little differently, but I isolate my mommas 2 weeks before they are due to deliver. The get a little social time with one or two of the other ladies, quiet time, no running and playing and strenous exercise activity....then that last week, no interaction with other dogs at all. Like Carmen, my males are not the least bit interested......but then I keep my males and females ALWAYS separated except when the boys need to go to work! That way, they stay focused on what their "job" is and I do not have issues/problems with natural breeding....when a lady comes into the breeding area....an expen in my sun room set up for breeding.....he knows what is about to happen and he focuses on the job at hand! If I had a lady about to deliver in 2-6 days, she would be lounging in her whelping area, living the life of Riley....soft music, soothing shows on TV, no intrusions from strangers or other family members, or other members of the Rosehill Gang.....as little activity as necessary going on around her...I already have all my stuff set up and ready to go, etc. Last edited by Yorkiemom1; 02-13-2013 at 01:49 PM. |

All males are different. If your dogs are around one another all day 24/7 like mine they will play up to the last few days before a whelp and my Quincy and Miah both know whats up. They know something is getting ready to happen. I would imagine that it would be quite different for a larger breeder with several Dams and a stud with a job to do. Unlike myself who only has one Dam and no stud dog in the home to worry about. About ten days prior to a whelp I get the whelping box/area ready. Than at two to three day prior I keep the dogs seperate. I try to keep things calm so not to cause any overdue stimulation. When the time comes, I keep the room dark and quiet. That helps move things along smoothly without any added stress.

| Awesome I will try to do this. I have everything ready. Daisy was not interested in her whelping box so the past week I put her things in it. At night she will lay in it and sleep. However most of the time she really just wants to be in my lap. Its strange to me because she just now started looking pregnant. Thank you for all the advice. |

| I was looking at where you ladies live. I live in Queen Creek Az. (close to Phoenix) It is quite warm here. Do you keep a thermometer in the whelping box to know that it is 80-85? I got one from walmart that goes outside so that I can tell is there a better method? |

| I have a digital one that gives indoor and outdoor temp...of course, the outdoor probe is inside the crate (whelping crate) and indoor probe is in my room! I do not put a heating pad in the whelping area....it goes completely under the bed the babies are on, so there is no way those babies can end up directly on that heating pad.....and I surround the crate with an electric throw like you cover up with while watching TV....that keeps the area nice and warm and a little secluded for momma...lke a den or cave area...my ladies love that enclosed, secluded feeling....it also keeps drafts off the crate, and keeps the ambient temp inside that crate close to 90*.... |

| Do you think I could find that at home depot maybe? Ok yah you arent the first one to say "put it under the whelping box" I just went and moved it. I am so glad that you ladies have done this before. Little tips I would never think of. Do you use the heat lamp to? I have one but was told I probably wont need it here in Az. as it is typically 80 in my house anyway. I looked for a "mentor" here in az before breeding but found know body was interested in helping me. I do have an emergency vet. But not sure I really like him. |

| When I take Daisy out (to potty) he is all over her "humping her" of course I put him in and made him stop and she wouldn't have any part of it anyway but I thought it was weird. IDK maybe she is releasing a hormone before delivery that he smells and thinks its time to breed?? |

I had a girl which had pyrometra and the males were still very interested in smelling her. That's why I asked.

| Yah I thought it was odd. I am trying to let her "rest" keep her away from them so she is ready when its time to deliver but she really just wants to be in my lap and running around. I think that is odd to. I would think that she would be ready for a little quiet time. LOL |
