If I had a lady about to deliver in 2-6 days, she would be lounging in her whelping area, living the life of Riley....soft music, soothing shows on TV, no intrusions from strangers or other family members, or other members of the Rosehill Gang.....as little activity as necessary going on around her...I already have all my stuff set up and ready to go, etc. |
Yep me too as much as possible !
All males are different. If your dogs are around one another all day 24/7 like mine they will play up to the last few days before a whelp and my Quincy and Miah both know whats up. They know something is getting ready to happen. I would imagine that it would be quite different for a larger breeder with several Dams and a stud with a job to do. Unlike myself who only has one Dam and no stud dog in the home to worry about.
About ten days prior to a whelp I get the whelping box/area ready. Than at two to three day prior I keep the dogs seperate. I try to keep things calm so not to cause any overdue stimulation. When the time comes, I keep the room dark and quiet. That helps move things along smoothly without any added stress.
