I have one but I just switched to a heating pad instead that I put under the blankets in the whelping box under the pups. I like it better because you can adjust the level of heat.

Never really experienced that with my male when Miah was ready to whelp. Seems a bit strange to me but even stranger is with our newest litter (Rubys first) my girl Brandi who is fixed tried to mount her several times after she had the pups. I think that she was overwhelmed by the fermions. She hasn't done it in a few day now, thank goodness.
