I would like to add that there is absolutely no need for 5 ties. One is usually sufficient, but most go with 2 ties with 1 day in between. If she is receptive, she is ovulating. Besides, sperm can remain viable for several days after breeding.

A real danger in so many ties...and having ties over a full week, is that you could wind up with pups at different stages of development, with some being premature. This can happen if an egg is fertilized on the first tie and then on one of the late ties. You could have pups a full week more developed than others. The less developed ones would be the human equivalent of a month premature.

Just got home from the vet Daisy is healthy but no puppies. Can't say as I am not disappointed but I am happy that their is nothing wrong.

Well thats good, at least the wondering is finally over !

I cant believe that even after 5 ties that she didn't get gregnant. Thats seems pretty imposible.

This is totally false. The eggs can be fertilized at differnet times but do not develop until they implant in the uterine horn....which occurs all at the same time. Development of the puppies is solely based on where they implant. A under developed puppy simply did not have ultrarium placement in the womb.

Well ladies thank you so much for all of the advice I will try again next time.I am in the market for a new vet as this could have been eliminated a week ago when I have the exray scheduled. On the bright side I have EVERYTHING I could possibly need to have a litter. Who knows what happened. The vet was even convinced she was pregnant until the exray. She even said that there was a little milk in her teats. But she did say that she looks great and when ready to she can be bred again!!! Maybe a different stud???

If and when you do decide to breed I would suggest only two ties two day apart. That is how I have always done it and have always had a successful breeding. Five ties for a breeding female is a bit too much. If you watch her heat cycle you'll know when the right time is to introduce the stud. Good LUck !

That a heartbeat can be detected within 2 days of implantation shows that development does occur before implantation. Also, implantation, as I have read, is a process that I liken to a graft taking place.

Everything is described as a phase...the release of the hormones that trigger the eggs, the maturation of the eggs, the fertilization of the eggs and implantation in the uterus.

I ran across an old study on mice that showed that showed the area nearest the ovary was the most favored implantation site as far as fewer fetal deaths and abnormalities go. It didn't address normal, but less developed fetuses, however.
