Maybe, I am dreaming and not helping at all. Maybe everyones right and I'm being used. I do not have alot of whelping experience....just the 3 litters of pugs several years back. I think perhaps I am being foolish. My heart is in the right place, but your right.....how I am I actually helping? I'm not.

| Well, one thing you could do is be willing to attend the whelping at BYB's house and if the dog gets in trouble and she won't get her help, be pro-active and call Animal Control and ask them what to do. I'll bet that would spur this person to get poor little mommie some help and you would not incur direct legal liability for whatever might happen to the mother and puppies. That might be safer for mommie and pups than trying to whelp a small mommie with just limited experience yourself and not all the supplies in the world like the vet will have. If she has agreed to sell these puppies with that contract and end a faulty line of breeding dog's with tendencies to health problems, you have done a lot, Miss Kendra. If she will carry through with that, I would say you have saved dogs! Keep on working on her about inappropriate breeding practices but don't let her use your kind heart to do things that she should be doing and report her for neglect if she doesn't do right by a dog. Maybe that combination approach is worth a try. Bless your heart for trying and keep your spirits up.

Bevo- Carries the (Blue) Gene and has been bred to one of your breeder(friends) Bitches. Are you going to have him neutered? Mac- Blue Born puppy, father is Bevo and her friends bitch. Has Mac been neutered? Your friends Bitch- Kendra as I typed out your situation sounds like you have too much on your plate. I would talk to your friend about neutering and spaying all of her dogs and bitches and to stop breeding. Last edited by manolos mom; 04-10-2011 at 03:29 PM. | |

| Please tell me,, did I say anything nasty...seriouly I want to know. I think the OP is a very good hearted person, the type unethical breeders use to their advantage..I learned it all first hand...sometimes you help, by NOT helping... If this bitch was in trouble, I would go to the breeder and do all I could to get a good result, but I would not do her job and hand her the litter...and she may do it all over again. AND..I do want to have a litter...but not go through all the stress...LOL Last edited by YorkieRose; 04-10-2011 at 03:39 PM. |

| agreed- I don't think anyone is being nasty. I think the OP has gotten in over her head because she wants to try and help so bad that she doesn't realize that the breeder is taking advantage of her.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | What's to become of the mama, will she go back to the byb too? I'm concerned because it seems like it will be much more difficult to her to readjust to crate life. Dogs who've only known crates aren't unhappy, but once you've given them a taste of freedom and treated them like a pet, going back to the crate may be very traumatic. Also, I've read that you do not want to treat her too much like a pet, she may want to sleep with you, and this can be dangerous if she whelps during the night.

| Hmmm, Did she breed this Bitch - No Is it her dog - No Is the breeder irresponsible - YES Would the Bitch & pups be better off with Kendra - I believe so Is Kendra doing her best to educate this BYB - I believe so Is Kendra doing her best to convince this BYB to STOP breeding & spay/neuter her dogs - Absolutely Is there a way to take back this breeding - No Is Kendra trying her very best to ensure the Health & safety of Mom & pups, I believe so, witch is more then the BYB is doing. Is this Bitch a living breathing creature who deserves better then the hand she's been dealt - YES What's done is done & can't be changed, but Kendra is doing her best to change any future breedings from this BYB. I think she deserves some credit for trying, witch is more then most people would do. She is going the distance for the dogs. |

| Kendra, maybe instead of taking the pup she's offered , you could ask for the Bitch instead. Keep her as your pet & spay her after the pups are weened. That would deff be a good start, getting one breeding Bitch out of that situation. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I like this idea. The breeder will probably breed the pups instead, but at least the mama will won't have to go back to that life, after knowing some kindness.

| This is what we have all been trying to say- when people's hearts take over they can unwittingly be taken advantage of. A BYB would LOVE to give up an "old" breeder dog instead of a puppy.
