Oh they are beautiful.....congratulations again! |
I'm not a breeder just what I have learned from my Breeder and the ones here on YT...Make mom nurse them, hold her down if you have too, her mommy instincts should kick in once they start nursing good...and you could try...use a cotton ball and diaper them over mom get them to pee on her...just a few thoughts...I hope they start nursing soon...good luck :) |
What little cuties... |
Sarah--you cannot hold momma to nurse her babies, try if you like, but in the end...it's a no go, it is what is. If at this point she has "rejected" then she will do the same here on out. YOU are now the "momma" Coax her if you can, but have your supplies ready to do the surrogate thing. Dang on it, I wish I was closer, I would be there. PM'ing with my #. Call me........ |
I have been following this story from the start. I'm so glad that the babies are finally here. They are so cute. |
Thanks everyone for all the help and advice. It has been a roller coaster that is for sure. Mom is still showing no interest in the puppies. I am now leaving 2 pups with her at all times. When she does get up, I put the pups back with the others till she sits back down again. Once she is settled then I put 2 back with her. The little boy is latching on just fine so at feeding time I make sure he is with her to start sucking. I then attempt to put another pup there but so far the girls are not latching on. I then feed and diaper each one and then put 2 back with her to settle in. She will walk over to where the puppies are and look then walks away. I never thought of diapering them in front of her so I will try that the next feeding. Puppies are doing good so far. Only one looks like it does not have sucking down but is now curling tongue so she is getting it. How much should they be eating every 2 hours??? As for mom...well she is not so good. Still not completely with us yet. Can't hold down water yet so she is not eating and just has this terrified look to her. This could be normal but any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if there is anything else that I need to be doing, checking or watching. Thanks again for everything!! Hugs from all of us!! |
Getting her to diaper them will help kick in the mommy instincts...Moms care and milk is best...but if you have to supplement...use Goats milk and distilled water mix 50/50...goats milks is as close to mom milk as you'll get...the puppy replacer and the milk you get from the vet isn't good for them....make sure the babies are warm before feeding...and you will have to burp them as well...they will need to be feed every 2 hours around the clock...but please don't stop trying to get mom to nurse, it will be a little easier on you and better for the babies to have mom. |

Babies are warm...did not know about the burping....how do you do that with a puppy??? Is it the same as with a child?? Also how much should I be giving them??? |
Mom will have more to do with them tomorrow, sometimes that is what happens when you c-section. I am so glad everything turn out great! They are pretty pups. |
They are beautiful! Thank you for doing all this for mom & babies. You are the best thing that could have happened to them. |
I am surprised by the lack of input here from the forum's more vocal, reputable, respected breeders. She has a serious problem here with nourishing these pups and getting mom interested. How much to feed is a pretty specific, important question. Anybody?? |
Problems with puppy Alright, having our first problem. One of the girls is now real congested. Breathing is labored and can hear lots of fluid. Tried suction and got nothing. Been tapping back upright and upside down...some improvement but not enought. Can't eat so used a drop of nutri-cal. What else?????? |
You should not give Nutri-cal to newborn babies. Nutri-drops are what some breeders give newborns. If you have been feeding her with a dropper she may have got some fluid in her lungs. It is hard for anyone to give medical advice on a newborn without being able to see them. You may want to contact your vet. Here is an interesting article on puppy survival: http://www.showpapillons.com/formula.htm Below is paragraph 10 of that article. I have used the glucose solution on occasion when I had a small pup and it has always helped. I pray all the babies will be okay. I know you have been through a lot. Quote:

Congrats "Godmommy" & mommy... I hope mommy starts to do better with the puppies... please keep us posted!!! I guess Im next on this journey, we're going onto 8wks on Wednesday & I just started to feel the puppies move tonight... so Ill be looking at you for advice so keep those updates coming.... thanks & congrats!!!! |
Well friends, I must say that today has been the most difficult day that I can ever remember having. First let me say that the puppy that was having a lot of congestion is clearing up quite a bit. I would do a series of 3 slings every 15 minutes to try to get that fluid out of her lungs. After doing that 4 times and having puppy go upside down while I tapped on her chest seems to have made a world of a difference. Very little noise can be heard and now she is eating again. On a different note, mom is now in ICU at the emergency vet. After I did my last post I was working with the congested puppy and seen that mom still was not looking too good. I gave her some nutri-cal since she still had not eaten. Offered her some food which she still declined. Then proceeded to feed babies. Had the 3 with her while I was with the congested baby when I seen her kick, fall over and go stiff. With having Yorkie's before I knew what the cause was.....low blood sugar. I immediately put a finger full of nutri-cal in her mouth while smearing it all over her tongue. I then got a syringe of water to put a little in there to help her absorb some. I started shaking the crap out of her to get her to come around. Her eyes rolled back and her legs went stiff. Got the vet on the phone and immediately had to get her to the closest place which is the most expensive vet hospital there is. Took me 5 minutes to get her there and she was still breathing....lifted her head some but still extremely weak. They immediately took her back and started to work on her. She weighed in at 3.8 lbs. She got an IV and 2 antibiotics and also a bolus of glucose. Blood work was done and she was running 103 temp. Now she is sepsis and has glucose level of 30 which is extremely low. They will be doing a fusion of packed red blood cells and continue the iv and antibiotics. I will be picking her up at 7:30 to transport her to my vet who did stay up and called me while at the emergency vet to go over what was wrong and what they were doing. I just got home and I am totally exhausted. If I could ask, would you please keep her and the puppies in your prayers. They need all that they can get right now. I would also like to say to those that have dogs.........PLEASE HAVE YOU PET SPAYED OR NEUTERED. This has been the worst experience that someone should have to go through. In less than 24 hours, I have spent a little over $5000.00 on a dog that should have never been breed and it was caused by the owners careless mistake. Please, I beg you to re-think letting your dog breed so you can have cute little puppies. Thank you everyone for all your support, prayers and thoughts. I know I could not have made it this far without all my friends. HUGS!!! Will post an update when I can. |
I am so sorry to hear that your mom is going through this, and you also!! Praying that you all come out of this ok. |
I no how you feel, As I my self went threw a heart ake last week with my momma, the tears and cash just flew, You are so right those people wanting to breed there yorkies cause there small and cute and think its easy money, WRONG, If any one of them would just get on YT and read the heart ake even real breedes who no what there doing and breed for the better of the dog have been threw, As far as the woman who had your baby at the mount time, shes no breeder, Or what we like to call a byb, She had no right letting this little momma even get preg, look at what shes going threw, Its just not safe for our yorkies, I will say I my self was one of the lucky ones, Only loosing one puppy and my momma dlivered all by her self and came from the vets with her 2 pups that night and is doing well, God has a place for you in heaven, And your bel knows who was there for her in the hardest times of her life, Ive seen amasazing things happen at the vets so keep praying as will every one has been for you on YT, As far as the pups sounds like your doing every thing you can to keep those little babies alive, Sadly momma will propley not ever take to them after this and now you must be mom, But there no different then a human baby, Keep them warm, feed every 2 hours for the 1st week, Make sure the room is 70 % with no drafts, Keep there butts wiped after every feeding to stimulate pottying,And STAY STRONG GOD NEVER GIVES US MORE THEN WE CAN HANDLE! |
Oh no - so heartbroken to wake up to this horrible news. I am in tears for this poor little girl who has been through so much. And you too. Praying and keeping my fingers crossed. Do you have anybody that can help you with the puppies so that you can sleep for one round of feedings? |
I'm so sorry you are going thru this...Sending lots of prayers your way. Its sounds to me that Mom has eclampsia...a lactating dog loses calcium through milk...and if that is the case...Mom will not be able to nurse at all now...you will have to fed, diaper and keep these babies warm...you will need a heating pad that doesn't have a auto shut off and keep it on low under a blanket..I would just put it under half there bed in case they get hot they can move off of it. Goats milk and distilled water or you can use boiled water once its room temp you can get the goats milk at walmart its by the evaporated milk...goats milk is best pups will thrive on it. I do believe its 1cc for every onch of weight so if you pups are 4oz than it would be 4cc...I have alway heard its best to under fed a pup than to over fed and take a chance of them sucking it down in there lungs...so you would have to feed every hour or so instead of every 2 hours....as they get older and are thriving they will be able to go longer in between feeding. Make sure milk is room temp when feeding and pups are warm..do not hold a pup like you would a skin baby while feeding...keep puppy on its tummy like he is stand or like he would if he was nursing from mom...very important...and as you know you must diaper after every feeding...you are going to be very busy the next 3 weeks cause the pups are going to need fed, diapered and kept warm around the clock to ensure there health. to burp them is just like a skin baby...just take one finger and tap them on there backs. Make sure you wash your hands good before feeding them everytime, keep everything clean clean...and if the pups are sucking I would try a pet nurser...you can get them at walmart or pet smart...there just little baby bottles and you can control the flow of the milk. God I hope this helps and I pray that mom will be ok and your puppies thrive. |
If you have a weak pup try this...I heard it works wonders and has saved weak pups. Fading Puppy or Weak Puppy: Beef Liver Remedy |
Praying for the momma, puppies and you. |
Just read this thread and i am so sorry for what you are going through...you have got some very good advice here..I pray your girl & babies do well |
I am praying momma and babies will be okay. |
I am just reading this. Add my prayers to the list that is already praying for this mom and her pups. |
Just checking in to see how momma is doing? Did you transfer her from the E-vet to your vet ok? |
I've been reading this thread, but refrained from posting until now. Thank you for opening up your home to this little girl. If her owner is as indifferent as you say, then without a doubt she and the puppies would have been lost by now. Breeding is not something that should be undertaken lightly or be an "oops". |
Sending prayers and hugs. |
I must say that all the prayers have been heard. Mommy is now home with me and doing fine. When I picked her up from the emergency vet and they brought her to me she got up and licked me. She would not let me leave her side. She looks 1,000 times better than what she did when I left her there at 3 this morning. They left her Iv cath in since she was being transported to my vet. Once we got to my vet he was already for us and when we came in he opened a can of a/d dog food and she ate it. He checked her over and we stayed there for a while so he could monitor her. She checked out beautifully, no temp, eating and holding it down, alert, pink gums and well hydrated. So he said there was no need to make her stay the day with him. Thought is was best that she come home and rest where she is comfortable. All 4 puppies checked out perfectly. 3 are now nursing from the bottle and 1 got demoted from the syringe to a eye dropper. No congestion is in any of the puppies. Some still have a little bit of nasal discharge but nothing that was concerning. He watched all of them eat to make sure they were doing it all right and only had to adjust 1 which is why she is now on a dropper. Baytril was given to mom last night so we can not put the pups on her today. Said it would take 12 hours to get out of her system but said we could start late tonight or tomorrow. Mom did look at a crying pup and when put in front of her she did sniff it but that was all. Mom did throw up a little after we got home but was told she would do that since the car ride made her a little sick. She is resting now. Pups have lost a little weight but that is not uncommon for all that they have been through. Here is where they are now in case you wanted to know. Girl 1 Birth 4.0 Today 3.3 Girl 2 Birth 3.5 Today 3.3 Boy 1 Birth 4.0 Today 3.2 Girl 3 Birth 3.5 Today 2.8 Pups are being feed every 2 hours or so and not having any problems with getting them to potty. Poop is getting better too...not the red iodine looking any more. Temp is perfect and heart, lungs and sucking checked out with the exception of girl 3 who is a light sucker. Will curl her tongue but doesn't have too much power behind it which is why she got demoted. All in all, I think they are doing great right now. Everyone is in bed and sleeping. I think if we can get through the next few days with out any problems I can breathe a little easier. Going to lay down with Momma now since we need some cuddle time before the babies need feeding. Thanks again for all the prayers. I know our outcome would not have been the same without them. You all have been our guardian angels!!!!!!!! |
Yea, so happy for you and your pups..God anwsers prayer! |
