About a yr ago I was in a similar situation. I too was anervous wreck. I did the temp thing also, Drove me crazy and her well lets just say she would run... The day she delivered she just stay in her bed. She was very quiet. No digging, whinning, or panting. She was a little restless. I just had a feeling that was the day. It was kind of wierd. I have never delivered pups before and worried how will I know and I just looked at her and somehow I knew. I can't explain how or why I just knew. ( I have very strong bond with animals, maybe thats how I knew). Anyways good luck to you. and thanks for taking such good care of this little girl.;) |

I was hoping to hear about puppies being safely delivered. I will check in later. |
Nothing new happening so far. We have ice and snow moving through in a few hours and I pray that if she decides that tonight is the night that she has no problems. Will update again if there is a change. Thanks for all the thoughts, prayers and advice. Hugs!! |
Sending prayers and good thoughts for you and the new mommy to be! |

Morning Update: No labor and no puppies. Mom slept with me all night long. Normally she will just lay there for a little bit and then move but she did not last night. We have had sleet most of the night so far. Hopefully it will end around noon today. Will keep everyone posted if something should change. |

The cold front is headed our way and should be here in a few hours. I think it will be more of a rain event for us. I am not looking forward to the cold weather. |
welcome 1 Attachment(s) Oh I know aout that waiting thing. I myself just went threw it, My Girl BellaDonna gave birth to 3 little girls Sat the 29th on her 61st day, I took her temp starting on the 55th day it usally ran 99.6-99.9 it did go down around the 58th day to 98.7 but back up, but on the 60th day it went to 98.4 and then on 61 day 97.9 and stayed. She did not pant, dig, she eat, drank water, everything was norm,She had no milk come out,no discharge nothing, except that I had made her a whelping area in my walkin closet but she would not go to it during the preg, That morning she was found in the closet and I could just tell by the look in her eye it was time, She started labor at 12:30 pm by 1pm, 30 mins the 1st came out breech. She was crying the hole time. We could not get the fetus out, With the fetus being stuck for more then 6 mins and we could not help it out we rushed her in to the vet, It took the vet another 30 mins to remove the fetus, It was a girl but was still born, do to the time of being in the b/c. Bella then delivered by her self without help two more little girls and came home that night, Shes doing well, Iam not trying to scare you but things do go wrong and fast, Make sure you have a vet close by and a 24 hr vet close by in case its night time, and money!!! althou Bella did not need a c-section or help it was still verey expensive to take her in for them to remove the stuck fetus and watch her whelp the other two, They did do xrays and blood work. If she gos to birth and you see danger signs dont wait to get help even 10mins can sometimes be to long. Watch and learn as much as you can about whelping pups, Youll need to know how to help her birth the 1st pup as in yorkies the 1st one always needs a little help. I hope all gos well. Please get xrays if you havent already it will not just tell you how many but it will help the vet know if she can deliver them on her own at home by the size and potions of the pups, If the pups are big she may be introuble. And sometimes the vet will go ahead and just do a c-section or have her deliver in the office. Attachment 336865 |
I read you did get xrays so thats good, Sounds like your ready but momma not, Shes doing what a good mother does carrying to term,Witch is whats best for the pups since my Bella is only 4 pounds I was worried about her size as well, but these pups are the smallest thing ive ever seen Ive seen rats bigger :) You say you cant wait till its over the birth is just the start, After youve got to watch momma even closer for other problems that can happen, Since my Bella gave birth at the vet and they did xrays right after I new there was not a stuck pup or plasinta, Youll watch for temp over 103.3, Milk fever, eclampsia, and keeping the pups warm when mom gets out of her box, Iam using a low heated pap, and heat lamp,Youll always want to watch for low calcium, Im giving a half tumb a day and the whelping pudding you`can find recp on YT. Now that Iam on the 3rd day after the birth my nurves arnt as bad and things are getting back to norm but its been a week for sure,WHAT TODAYS ONLY TUESDAY! Were off today for the docking of the tails and dew claws, Please update us on the momma and pups, |
Just did my evening check. Temp is back down to 98.1 although we have been at that range before. Her tummy is hard and full. I just can't see how she can go much longer without popping. Wish I could say that tonight was the night but only time will tell. Still have ice on the roads so if it is tonight I hope we don't have problems. I do know that my new friends here will help me the best that they can and I am very thankful for that. My question is: Since her xray was Friday, how much bigger have the puppies skulls developed since then. We measured the skulls and pelvis on friday and it showed the pups would fit, I am just wondering if they will still fit now if and when she has them. |

We had an uneventful night last night. Pups are still warm inside mom's tummy. Temp is still down this morning. Will be calling the vet today to see if we can come in for a check up and possible 2nd xray to make sure all is good and we can still proceed. Thanks Kim for talking with me last night. You helped ease my mind. YT members are really great!!! Will update later. |
..just wait it out, unless you see a problem..the less stress mom has the better... |
It will come and when it dose it might not be what you expected, a watched pot of water never boiles |
Oh I know she will have them when she is ready. I am just concerned since the puppies would fit to delivery on Friday if they still would now. I did call the vet and he is most likely going to take them by C-Section when she does go into labor but we will not do that till labor comes since we have no idea when to expect them. Now if she does go into labor and before we meet the vet, if she has one without problems then he will let her continue under his eye and be there just in case. Also he does want to see her by friday just to make sure all is well. Thanks for all the help. Will post if something changes. |

1 Attachment(s) I will tell you my Bella who just had babies on the 29th is also very small 4.7 pounds per preg and 5.11 the last week of preg, She did not have to have a c-section, Now the 1st one was breech and did become stuck and did not make it. Witch is why its best for your dog to deliver even on her own at the vets, if you have not delived pups before and usally small yorkies need help with the 1st pup, My Bella did have two more little girls 3oz each on her own without any help from the vet, So they can have them even if there small but its best for the vet to do it, When Bellas 1st pup came out I was so scared when it became stuck, I couldnt get it out and they vet was 10 mins away, Off to vet we went, with half of a fetus stuck in my baby, Not a good feeling, I really reccomend if you have not whelped before, Witch I had, so I thought I new what to do. (boy did she fool me,) Then when you see labor get her in fast, Bella started Labor at 12:30 pm and at 1:00 pm only 30 mins from the 1st signs of labor she was having her 1st baby!Attachment 337084 She gave no per signs of labor, no digging, nesting, panting, she eat, drank, She did go to her box in the closet and she yelped out and I new it was time, She cryed a lot, Her temp did drop a few times like yours has been doing without labor but two days before it went to 98.7 and did not go back up,When the temp stays down for a day pups are on there way! If the temp gos down then back up thats a flock, Like our temp changes threw the day depending on blood-pressure,activity,if were sleeping, The best check times are mornings 1 hr after the bitch wakes up, and evening. good luck please feel free to PM me if you need someone to talk to, Our pets need more people like you on there side :) |
OP, any update on the little momma? Or should I sat "big" momma, she is pregnant. |
Oh gosh, I was biting my nails until the end and still no babies??? I hope all is ok. I won't give any advice as it looks like you've gotten enough good advice already but hope that all is well! |
Good evening friends. Still no babies but mom is doing fine. Talked with vet today and we are still going to proceed with an attempt to let her go into labor when she is ready. Don't know when that will be and she won't tell me. :D Temp is still down which is not abnormal for her. I am only monitoring it to make sure she is not in trouble. We all know the temp watching does not work with her since she drops and climbs so much and just won't follow the rules of how it is supposed to be done. Guess I am getting a good look at which route she will take....and it is not the textbook one. LOL Think I am ready when she is. I have read everything that I could find, researched more stuff than I will ever need to know and have probably watched about 100 births on the internet not to mention all the advise I have found here and the people that I have talked to. Will keep you updated when something changes. Hope everyone has a safe night. Hugs!! |
Thanks for the update. I feel like an anxious aunt!. Hope pups come soon. We are all rooting for you and your lil mama to be. |
Thanks for the update. You will do just fine. It sounds like you have really prepared for the big event. I hope she delivers soon so you can relax. I know how hard it is to sleep at night when you are on puppy watch. |
Yes, for the past week now I have been sleeping with one eye opened and on the floor. Can't wait till I can go to my bed again and get a good nights sleep. At least I have been able to take a nap during the day and let my daughter keep an eye on her for me. Got snow on top of our ice last night so I at least did not have to go to work last night and now we won't work tonight. Just one more night of possible work where she will not be watched too carefully before I am off for a few more days. Should be real close now since the x-ray was taken on the 28th and we seen ribs and pelvis. She did get into the whelping box last night for a moment before she got back out. At least we are getting somewhere.....slowly. LOL Will update again later today or if there is a change. |
Thanks again for the update. We are all anxiously waiting for the big event to start. Over the years I have been on some long puppy watches. The longest was 70 days from the first breeding. I know how worrisome it can be. In your case you don't know when the breeding took place so that makes it even harder. |

some vets will allow up to but no longer then 70 days;) |
Do I really have to put these cigars back in my pocket? Wishing you the best and keep us posted....please. |
