| ![]() God bless you and your decisions about your Treasure. No one is better to give you advice but your vet. Your vet saw your bitch and will be able to give good advice to you. I have close friends that are vets and was on the phone with me though my whelps. Their advice is golden, they are Dr's. It sounds like treasure is getting close to her whelp date especially if you can feel the pups moving, around 10 days before whelping. The temperature method works wonders . Ask your vet and do research. My one girls temp was normally 99.8 and she dropped to about 98.7 24 hours prior and then 98 12 hours prior. My other's normal temp was 101 she dropped to about 99 and fluctuated for a day and 1/2 before whelping. Neither one pushed at all for long. Keep a careful eye on her. you will need to help with the whelp and have supplies on hand. Im a novice breeder. We breed horses so whelping pups is easy. |

Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | ![]() This is a pretty messy situation. You have made your choice and I must agree it was a very hard choice to have to make. I wish you luck with the birth.

| ![]() It always make me cringe when I see people with very....questionable....breeding ethics jumping in to encourage people and give them breeding advice. ![]() A word of good general advice: Be very aware of who you are taking your advice from, be it owner, breeder or vet. |

| ![]() I must say, after being on YT for awhile now and reading every single post (I think) and from talking and asking my vet lots of questions, I have come to the conclusion that the breeders here on YT know a lot more than my vet - ON BREEDING. This is probably a very exciting time for you - expecting your first litter - but when you have questions on breeding, my advice would be to ask it here on YT. You will definitely get more knowledge and insight from people who breed these tiny toy breeds - and your vet does not. Good luck to you. I wish you a quick and easy whelp - and happy and health puppies.

Again, great medical and overall textbook knowledge base, but more than likely, breeders working with Yorkies and Yorkies alone are going to be far more knowledgeable in other areas. Both vet AND mentor combined are really key.

| ![]() Exactly! I respect breeders information but it is sad how they talk as if a degree is needed to know the info they have! For the need to know info to Bama and the rest who agreed with her post, I chose the vet I chose because my vet bred small breed dogs and golden retrievers and one of those small breed dogs were yorkshire terriers, so yes, I would definitely take the advice of my vet. All breeders are not always right. That is why yes Bama, I do agree with be careful who you ask and take advice from that goes along way. Everyone will continue to have their opinions but regardless of my noviceness of breeding whelping or whatever I take great pride of doing my research thoroughly on all the breeds I adopt before adopting. As I stated, I have 6 dogs, akita mix, Siberian Husky, 2 yorkies(newest to the family) a shorkie and a pomeranian and I love all of my pets and strive to know as much as I need to and more. I couldnt agree with Felicity more there is no degree on breeding so at the end of the day most info is based off "textbook reading" and most on hands on experience and i definitely agree that hands on is the best knowledge to have but please do not knock me down based off my decision because it is an inbreeding whelping and do not under estimate my knowledge either. My main goal coming on YT was to find out what other breeders thought about the information leading to finding out if my female was pregnant not to feel like i was being bashed because her brother and her mated etc. One way or another inbreeding has been done in the yrs and instead of knocking an innocent mistake that was no doing of mine keep in mind that their are other people who inbreed purposely and probably a few on YT themselves do it as well. yes, yes, its been said it is for the experienced breeders who know what they are doing, but again this was not my fault that they mated it was the previous owners fault and I did decide to let her have her litter so how about a few words of encouragement and true breeding/whelping knowledge to help out instead of bashing because that is how i feel from Bama... again thanks to all those who had kind words and great advice and did not make me feel guilty or knock me for letting my Treasure have her litter. |

Please reread my comment about being cautious who you were taking advice from: It always make me cringe when I see people with very....questionable....breeding ethics jumping in to encourage people and give them breeding advice. Often times people who shouldn't be breeding in the first place, much less advising others on how to do it! It wasn't really about just vets, or your vet in particular. Also, I believe the comment about the degree was meant to insinuate that vets are a better source for info because they have degrees and breeders don't. Of course, a large part of breeding requires plain old common sense--which no degree can give you and which many people seriously lack. ![]()

| ![]() Bravo Treasure for being PROLIFE! You post a question and expect a answer and support. Some people go way off topic from the question. Take the answers and knowledge you need for your situation, and ignore the rest if its against your beliefs. I am sure the pups will turn out fine. God Bless and healthy whelping. |

| ![]() You do realize these are dogs, right? I believe that debate is one reserved for the human world. It's not a debate about "beliefs." ![]() I believe in regards to the OP, she has gotten lots of support and answers. I don't see where anyone is criticizing her. And unlike many people are willing to do, she seemed to have considered ALL advice and made the decision she felt was best. Last edited by BamaFan121s; 10-08-2010 at 06:42 PM. |

Please do not use term 'prolife' in regard to animals. Prolife is human term. Doggie can't decide whether she believes life begin at conception! ![]()
