I agree!!! and to me she looks younger than 15 mos...if I was guessing I would say 8 or 9 mos tops...by the time my girls were 15 mos they were growing into there adult colors she isn't. JMO.

This little girl could very well be soft coated. However, some take longer to grow into adult coat.

The fact that she was bred on her first heat could be the very reason she hasn't taken to being a mom. Breeding should not be performed until 2nd heat and/or 18 months of age. Mental maturity should be taken into consideration as well as the size of a girl. As proven with this little one, she was too small and needed a C-section. She may have been 5 pounds and whelp time, but that was very much because of the pups she was carrying.

Good luck with these pups and take care of your little girl. Her health is very important to the health of these pups.

We made it through night 1. Thanks for some ideas, I ended up laying with her in the puppy pin with the puppies and a heating pad most of the night. The pups fed on and off all night and stay warm and seem to have slept well.
Momma dog still seems really exhausted from yesterdays events. I think this will be a whole weekend of laziness for me around the house just laying with her and the babies.

Barbi your pups are cute as they all are. Please know the signs of eclampsia, if you don't already, also your tiny Mom with three pups will need lots of health/food support. go to the whelping pudding recipe that is posted on this thread.

Like others here, this dog was way too young and very much too small to be bred. Please spay her as soon as possible.

I'm very happy Mom and pups are doing well right now, but the road is long, and you need to be alert along that long road.

Please let us know how all are doing we truly only hope the best for these pups and Mom.

I really, really hope that the puppies and the Mom are ok.
I just have to be honest, it breaks my heart that she was bred at such a young age and even worse IMO at such a small size, on purpose.
Most reputable breeders would never breed a female that small, EVER. You are incredibly lucky that she survived.
I hope you have her spayed, so she can enjoy a life as a wonderful pet!

She looks much younger than 15 mos...still looks like a puppy!

While I am NOT defending this breeder, I have a 4 yr old in a puppy clip..and at 3 pounds everyone thinks she is maybe a year.

I wish the poster well...please consider spaying your bitch...it is very difficult for a small mom to produce milk for a litter...she will need help.

I'm guessing the BD entered is correct. Look at her f'aced, her color hasn't even changed yet. She's just a puppy

Lady I cannot believe that you would even think of breeding that baby girl. What were you thinking?

I have a 2.75 pound female that I cannot imagine breeding. My 8 week old puppies are bigger than she isd.

You will be very fortunate if this baby does not die from eclampsia. But since you didn't bother to do any research, you no doubt have no idea what that is.

I have a 3 pound yorkie and would never breed her. That is why I had her spayed, so I would never have to worry about her. OMG!! I can't believe you bred her. That is way toooooooo tiny. Also beside her having a dark coat, wrong texture, she also has down ears. I would have her spayed as soon as she gets over taking care of these babies. You are so lucky she did not die. You have a hard road ahead, since she is so young and will have to make sure the pups nurse every 2 hours. Also with mama's small size you will need to watch for ecampsia. I hope you will be staying by her side 24/7 - you have to watch her closely.

So in May last year you stated you planned to bred abby.

Did after 2yrs as a member here, did you do any research on the risks of breeding a very tiny girl??? And pray tell me what that research said. Post the links.

I'd surely love to have a word or two with whoever told you that breeding a 2.5lb girl was safe, and just the nblooody thing to do!

So why did you breed her? For fun? To give pups to your family and friends? To make money off her very tiny back?

According to your earlier posts, you bred large bred dogs before, and then when your two died, you fell in love with the Yorkie and wanted to breed them.

So tell me who was your mentor? And how many health checks if any did you do on the sire and dam?

I know these posts are supposed to be educational, but I am aghast at what you did, and DIDN"T do.

I hope you don't try to sell these pups on this site

I'm no breeder and I don't ever in my life plan on becoming one, but even *I* know that is too small a dog. I did research on breeding in order to continue my search for a possible adequate breeder (since rescues haven't been coming through, although now I may know the cause of that...) and even I understood that breeding a pup that small is too risky and unhealthy. I wanted such info so that I could *avoid* buying from people who have poor breeding practices, and someone who endangers the lives of her mum and pups certainly falls into the category of poor breeding practices.

If someone who isn't ever planning on becoming a breeder can thoroughly read the stickies and other threads in this section... certainly someone who is *planning* on breeding should at the very least skim for important points for crying out loud! In reality, they should be reading it *more* thoroughly than some random non-breeder like me... yeesh. :/

Ignoring research, anyone can plainly see that those pups are too large in comparison to the mum. The first thing I thought when I looked at them was, " Awww pups! So cute!" I am an animal lover after all...but that was quickly followed up by, "Wow, those pups are basically the same size as other breeds of pups I've seen... omg they look so big in relation to the mom!"

You would not have passed my breeder questionnaire. Breeding this little girl in the first place disqualified you on question 1.

That picture w/ mom is heartbreaking to me. She just looks miserable.
