| Someone please answer this question.... My Yorkie stays on a leash in my yard for some outdoor time. (Due to her running away). I have a neighbor that has a male Yorkie that runs around without a leash. So my sister in law drove up and saw the male running from my Bella and she thinks they may have got through mating. She is in heat. I've always heard that if a female is in heat then the male with automatically go to her. I was just wondering if it is a possibility that he did get to her and she could possibly be pregnant. This is her first cycle so I'm ok if she did get pregnant but also scared that she will lose them. Someone please talk to me... |

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | Yes she can get pregnant. Males will travel from miles away. You should never have a bitch in heat left outside alone. What if a 100 male would have wondered in the yard? You are ok with her getting pregnant her first heat? That is not good. She is way to young and may not have the instict to take care of the pups.

| She is to young to have a litter of puppies, she is still a puppy herself. My advise would be to talk with your attending vet and discuss the option of altering her. Risking her life would not be an option for me. |

| Please Please Pray that she is not pregnant, she is way to young. And please do not leave her outside alone, who knows what male may end up matting with her.

| Thanks guys. I figured she was too young. And I hope she is not pregnant I don't want to risk her life that way. She is my baby. I just wasn't sure so that's why I asked. I didn't think about her being in heat that is why she was outside. But I will be sure to be outside with her. How long will she stay in heat? And she is right beside my door and I live in a small neighborhood so I'm not worried about anyone taking her. As I said, she stays by my front door. She loves being outside anyway. |

| Its not a good idea to leave your leashed yorkie unattended..she could strangle herself on her leash or worse. Just keep her away from any and all males for 3 weeks and see your vet. Is there any way you could check with the owner of the male and see if he's altered or not? If he is, that might put your mind at ease. |

YT 1000 Club Member | Your kidding me right. Why on earth would you leave a Yorkie outside regardless of you living in a quiet neighborhood. And to top it of her being in heat.

Also, it is toooooo dangerous to leave a Yorkie unattended and tied out on a leash. She could be stolen, big dog could kill her, could get strangled on the leash. Maybe put up a fence to keep her home. But I would still not leave her outside un-supervised. | |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Not to mention the heat around here this time of year. Ugh, it's just miserable outside.

| Please have her spayed. I couldn't agree more with everybody else. Do not leave your dog outside alone! Do a search. Dogs have been stolen, killed by other dogs, gotten by birds of prey, on and on. Mine do not go outside alone ever. They go outside, I go outside. Not trying to be harsh, but that was very irresponsible behavior, esp. since she was in heat. But hopefully now you know better and won't do it again.

| I couldn't agree more with what everyone else has already said and I also want to ad this...how do you know the neighbor's little Yorkie is the only male that visited her while she was out there all alone?? How do you know that a beagle or a lab or something much larger didn't come for a visit?? How about a cocker spaniol or a Boston...the head size of a Boston puppy would surely kill your little girl. Also, please don't think she can't be stolen just because you live in a quiet neighborhood. Believe me...it can happen and it can happen quick. Please take her to your vet to be checked and keep her inside while she is in heat or have her spayed and don't ever leave her unattended while she is outside...too much can happen in the blink of an eye. I wish you luck and I hope she is not pregnant. |

| I would talk to your vet in the morning. And never leave her alone outside. Do you know that their are coyotes in city and county that have taken off with small dogs and cats. Not to mention hawks, owls, and snakes. We hear it and it does happen. Never leave her unattentded. And yes, it is way too hot for her to be outside - yorkies do not have an undercoat as most fdogs do and so can not cool themsleves off. Leaving her outside in the summer is like locking a dog in the car. |

| From what you've written, you had no idea whether she mated with the other Yorkie or not. So you saw nothing and have no idea what really went on. There is no telling, under those circumstances, what other dogs might have mated with her ... larger dogs even. You need to get her spayed, it could save your baby's life.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Ok why isn't she spayed by now? If there were medical reasons, then revisit those reasons with your vet because of the situation you put your dog in. IN heat, alone, unattended where any male could get to her. And good chance some male did. Breeding is not for the inexperienced, much learning planning, and education should go into it before endeavouring to breed, not to mention having an experienced mentor Spay your dog now, no worries about puppies now or in the future.
