Monolos mom has all the compassion in the world for animals. And no, she doesn't know it all. That is why she spent thousands of dollars on her Lola, saving her life from a death sentence. A disease that was rare; going from vet to vet, specialist to specialist, refusing to give up. Lola is alive a year later, healthy, thriving and happy.

Its treatable in the sense that when the chest cavity fills up with so much fluid that the dog cannot breath the vet can put a big needle in their chest and drain the fluid out. even with a low fat diet the chest will still fill up and need to be drained. With the case i saw it eventually got to the point where we were draining her every few weeks to then every week until she needed to be hospitalized because she couldn't breath after only a few days. In her case (6 year old sheltie who'd been dealing with it for years) the owners decided to euthanize her at that point because there was nothing else that could be done. it was very sad.

In stella's case i wonder if it was related to what she was going through at the time and therefore, caused by trauma or illness which made her case so bad that she only had a few days. hard to say

I did a little reading on chylothorax as I had never heard of it. From my reading, it is treatable to a point but the prognosis is poor. I read back over one of the OP's other threads and as of June 7 she still had no diagnosis for Stella. How many would have put their dog to sleep without at least trying some treatment, which is what Shasha was doing with Stella? She was getting her ready for the ER when she passed. It's apples and oranges to compare another's success with Stella's passing. I must say I'm distressed and disappointed as can be at some of these attitudes in the wake of Stella's passing.

Thank you WoogieMan.. for your kind words and compassion..... ive not stopt crying all day... keep seeing Stella in her last moments of life......it did distress and upset me with some of the comments made to me about Stellas situation.... some remarks made to me really hurt me.... as if i wasnt doing enough for her... well i know and the vet knows we did all we could and i know in my heart i tried...but she couldnt be saved. Now others are sending posts that the condition COULD have been treated!

I must say I was so disturbed at this also......All I can say is, WOW......

Sasha, I am so sad for Stella and for you......I know from first hand experience the devastation upon losing a pet and it is heartbreaking. Then to be blamed for her passing has to be the ultimate stab to the heart, as if you couldn't have cared less for her......wow.......I wish you well, my heart breaks for you and for Stella.......

This dog was nursing a pup when she was ill also Shasta was taking her for walks when she was having trouble breathing. Im not blaming this breeder for Stellas death but there were a lot of things to be concerned about.

Yes, there were a lot of threads started and it does get confusing. I think you are incorrect in saying Stella was nursing her pup at the time. And I did read the threads and don't need someone telling me I should have a different opinion. FYI, Stella wasn't diagnosed until June 11 and died in the wee hours of June 13.

I will tell you that I was being very careful in choosing my words when I said I was disappointed. Disgusted would be more appropriate.

I guess I'm one of the ones to be disgusted at because what I read and interputed in the threads was totally different than the one that is disappointed in some (probably me included) but you won't be the first person disgusted in me nor the last.
I feel so very sorry for Stella but Shasha said in her own words her vet said there was nothing they could do and they were expecting her to pass (at least that is how I interputed it) and if I were in that position I would have put her to sleep to ease the pain.
I wouldn't have taken her on walks knowing she couldn't breathe...thats the first mistake I saw but like some I have my own opinion

I do again want to say I am sorry about Stella my condolences...

I won't go so far as to say I am disgusted, but I do think that some of the posts were just mean. If Shasha had posted Stella's passing in the memorial section, people would have treated her kindly and with sympathy. Just because Stella recently had pups, does not mean the Shasha does not deserve our sympathy, she just lost a dog that she loved.

What is so upsetting to me about this is that I see it as a breach of simple human decency. When someone is fresh with grief and you can't bring yourself to offer genuine sympathy, at least have the decency to remain silent.
