With the case i saw it eventually got to the point where we were draining her every few weeks to then every week until she needed to be hospitalized because she couldn't breath after only a few days. In her case (6 year old sheltie who'd been dealing with it for years) the owners decided to euthanize her at that point because there was nothing else that could be done. it was very sad.
In stella's case i wonder if it was related to what she was going through at the time and therefore, caused by trauma or illness which made her case so bad that she only had a few days. hard to say
