| Ellie has Eclampsia Well thank the lord above I heartburn last night. After 15 minutes of tossing and turning in the bed last night, I came down stairs for some milk, and I found Ellie in her box and she was as rigid as stone. I got her out of the box immediately, rushed her to the emergency vet. They said we got it just in time. They gave her IV with calcium, a shot for vomiting and then some extra IV fluids. The puppies are now 16 days old and she can no longer nurse them. I am feeding them with a bottle, equal parts goats milk and water. My husband will be feeding them during the day while I am at work, and hopefully I will not need it, but my mother has offered to help as well. Ellie is doing much better, but she doesn't understand why she can't feed them. Any words of advice on a quick way to get her milk to dry up without getting mastitis? Everyone appreciated the bottle this morning with the exception of the largest one. He still wants the teat. I am going to try to put a little karo syrup on the nipple and see if he takes it. Is it a good idea to get her spayed? She had a litter before and she developed matisis, other than that, she was fine. I'm so torn as this has never happened to her before. Any words of advice is greatly appreciated.

| I was doing everything I could, but it just happened. I am keeping a onsie on her, but she doesn't understand why she can't feed her puppies. I am calling my vet this morning to see if he can give her a shot to dry up her milk and take out the IV cath. She's a lot better this morning.

| Sorry about your girl. The good think is that they are 16 days of age, when they are 3 weeks of age they can begin lapping their goats milk from a bowl. At about 3 1/2 half weeks you can begin adding Gerber's rice ceral with a bit of Karo Syrup and make a soupy gruel. Your vet can prescribe a dry up pill for your girl, however feeding her less will lessen her milk supply. Just monitor that her brests don't fill up, having them burst is not a fun think to contend with. You can put her in with pups, just make sure you put a onsie on her. You may want to lightly day over her nipples with medical paper tape while she's in there with them. Eclampsia is tough, I keep Oral Cal Plus (for emergencies, when I see my girls acting strange) on hand and give a Calcium Supplement as well as feeding a scrambled egg a day (best natural calcium), along with whelping pudding, The Calcium Supplement I give according to my girls weight and whenever there is a litter of 3 or more.

| Thanks so much for the advice. I would have never thought of the paper tape. My husband is going to take her this morning to the vet and see if he will give her something to dry up the milk. She felt full this morning and was actually leaking some milk through her onsie. I am not sure if it was from the diapering of the pups or what brought it on. I will keep you guys updated as soon as she gets home from the vet.

| Wow, Mary, I didn't realize that happened. I am sorry to hear about that. I am anxious sitting here waiting for my husband to call me from the vets office. I don't have any additional time to miss work, so I am all tapped out. At least he is there to do it for me. I wouldn't know what to do if he wasn't helping me so much. He is actually going to go buy more onsies this morning. (We only had 2 that would fit her)

You know I can whelp anyone elses litter. But, when it comes to whelping my own, I go all drama......just lose control. Hubby has now taken over that part, keeping me out of the room until he sees a bubble. Then he yells for me. And because I'm so anal, he now puts the whelping crib in the Guest Room and takes over the care of mom and the pups until they are about 4 weeks old......then they come into our room. Of course all the girls in the house are his and have a bond with him. He's always so calm, cool and loving with them. We work well as a team. He hasn't got the danger signs, he depends on me for that. You should see him milk down a pup until it gets to the birth canal. Knows how to gently turn a pup when it is presenting itself head up. He does all the tails and dew claws.....

| Thanks Carmen. I know how lucky I am. You should have seen him feeding the little ones this morning. I have the 3 boys which now weigh about a 1lb and then the runt is weighing in at 8.1 oz. I have never seen one so small before. I know that this doesn't pretain to Ellie's issue, but I have one of my boys that has a pink nose and white around it. Could he possibly be a parti carrier? How do you know?

| I will do that. I was just curious if that means he was a parti, or if it's just going to turn later on. Everyone else has a black nose. Don't tell the others, but he is my favorite.
