| 7 weeks too little? Heyyy everyoneee..! I am needing some advice.. Tonight my parents brought home a 7 week puppy. Of course I was really excited to see that cute little babyface! ..but I was also worried because I know it's too soon. I wanted to wait for her to be atleast 10 weeks old but my mom was really eager/anxious.. I'm pretty unprepared because they just surprised me with her & I don't have any supplies yet! I have read & researched a lot, all over yorkietalk & google lol.. but I still feel like I don't know what to do now that she's actually here in front of me! What should I do? The breeder was their best friends' son&his girlfriend who is going on vacation this week (tomorrow) so, I can't take her back but.. I'm ready for the responsibilities. I just want her to be A-Okay. She has her first set of shots, which include a list of things.. from parvo to distemperment etc.. I do plan on trying to socialize her to the best of my ability. Eventually enrolling her in dog training classes, & puppy play dates, lol. I am going to the store tomorrow to buy some temporary supplies for her & I think I'm going to bring her with me in my purse.. making sure she doesn't walk so she can't catch anything.. (if that helps?) Butttt.. I have another problem. We have two cats. They're almost 1 year old. Both are unspayed, indoor females. One of them is pretty friendly & the other one is afraid of everything, except our household. I had their first introduction today, when my parents waltzed in with Mercedes (the new baby) & the scaredy cat kitty barely even noticed her presence, while the friendly one hissed & was ready to run and hide.. "/ Sorry for this uber long post! I didn't realize how much I wrote until I finished, I just wanted to get everything out there.. lol. Any advice guys? Thanks in advance! |

| Hi. I brought my Krystal home at 8 weeks. I wasn't expecting it either and found out after the fact that it is better to wait. I didn't have any supplies yet, but was given a great puppy package with bed, food, toys, dog dishes, and a folder with instructions, vaccinations, etc. When I got in the door, our cat who is about 8 years old was on the couch. I tried to introduce them. What I got was the hiss and growl with backing up and running upstairs to one of the boys rooms and I didn't see him for a couple of days. (my punishment I guess) I won't say they are the best of friends now, but the do tolerate each other and occasionally play with each other. Usually short lived and one sided on Kyrstals side. Just a note, feed your kitties up high and don't let your puppy eat their food. Krystal would throw up after eating the cat's food. I had Krystal blocked into our very large vanity/bathroom which didn't last long and she's been in my bed ever since. Make sure to get to the vet within 3 days and have her checked out for her health and set up a shot/worming schedule. Just love her and realize how fragile she is. It's late and I don't think I'm very coherent right now. I probablly only touched on a couple of your question but I'm sure you'll get great advice from others here who know a heck of alot more than I do about Yorkies. Where in Ca are you? I live in Vacaville off 80. Congrats on your little girl, Mercedes is a great name.

| I should be asleep. I have to work in the morning. But I've become a night owl as of late. I have heard some of the horror stories too. I've never had any problems with low blood sugar and although I don't have nutrical I do have honey and karo syrup. She is a very healthy puppy(now 6 months old) if only a picky eater right now. And right now she is barking at me and wants something. If only she could talk. I be soooooo in trouble! Night, I've got to get some sleep. Good luck and try not to addicted to YT. It's hard not to do. Oh, I would take to the vet to get your own vet's opinion, and the have a base line to go by as she grows.

| First off, congrats on the new addition! Yes, 7 weeks is much younger than what is commonly recommended as the ideal release age. (It's acutally illegal in many states!) The best advice I can give you is to make sure that while your little one is adjusting, make sure that she has a very calm environment--no a lot of visitors, no running errands with you and if possible, minimal interaction with your cats for the time being. Make sure that she is eating ample amounts of food several times per day and watch her very closely for signs of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Keep some Nutrical on hand just in case she shows any signs of it. Make sure you are feeding her the food she was accustomed to eating while with the breeder...at least for now. If you decide to swap to something else, wait just a bit and swap her over gradually. She should be resting quite a bit...make sure that you limit her play time. Good luck and keep us posted. |

| Thank you, thank you, guys! Well, last night I went to check on her & when she should've been sleeping, she was chewing on one of the cats old toys! I'm not very sure how her sleeping went but this morning she was up & running. I tried feeing her, the breeders gave us some of her puppy chow she was previously eating but she hasn't really eaten. I do plan on changing her to a better quality food, any suggestions? I'm going to wait a week or two to gradually make the switch. I tried feeding her twice since she woke up. I added some warm water to make it mushy and had to feed her one kibble at a time. (She only had about 5 pieces, doesn't sound satisfying "/ ) How much do you think she should normally eat? I have to work today (& everyday) at around 4 until 9, so I'm thinking of leaving her in the bath tub with her crate, food & water, and a toy, it's lined with newspaper for when she potties. She's actually in there right now so she can sleep & adjust a bit better. I'm a little worried since she hasn't eaten much but she's very plump so I know the breeders have gotten her to eat well. How do I go about getting her to eat more? |

| How much does she weigh? I would definately not take her anywhere until she is finished getting all her shots. Other than that, you have great advice already. Congrats on your puppy...I'm sure she'll bring you lots of joy.
