Hi. I brought my Krystal home at 8 weeks. I wasn't expecting it either and found out after the fact that it is better to wait. I didn't have any supplies yet, but was given a great puppy package with bed, food, toys, dog dishes, and a folder with instructions, vaccinations, etc. When I got in the door, our cat who is about 8 years old was on the couch. I tried to introduce them. What I got was the hiss and growl with backing up and running upstairs to one of the boys rooms and I didn't see him for a couple of days. (my punishment I guess) I won't say they are the best of friends now, but the do tolerate each other and occasionally play with each other. Usually short lived and one sided on Kyrstals side. Just a note, feed your kitties up high and don't let your puppy eat their food. Krystal would throw up after eating the cat's food. I had Krystal blocked into our very large vanity/bathroom which didn't last long and she's been in my bed ever since. Make sure to get to the vet within 3 days and have her checked out for her health and set up a shot/worming schedule. Just love her and realize how fragile she is. It's late and I don't think I'm very coherent right now. I probablly only touched on a couple of your question but I'm sure you'll get great advice from others here who know a heck of alot more than I do about Yorkies. Where in Ca are you? I live in Vacaville off 80. Congrats on your little girl, Mercedes is a great name.
