Buying from a dog broker selling multiple breeds from different states and not knowing anything about where the puppies come from, their health, etc... is a big mistake! Breeding a 3-4lb female would have been a big mistake! Breeding dogs from puppy mills is a mistake! If you do want to breed, I hope you will take the advice already offered to find a mentor and do lots of research!

| I was once told a long time ago that "dog people" are their own breed. I found that out when I purchased my Afghan hound 16 years ago. The breeder informed me that she was going to be in my life for the next 15 years. That's stalking no matter how you slice that pie. When he passed I didn't contact her as he was my dog, my Jordan. Not her's anymore. I have 2 rescue dogs, 1 is 12 and the other 11. One is diabetic and going blind, she gets 2 shots (16ml) each day. She is in a diaper most of the day as it is hard for her to control herself. Most people would put this animal to rest as this type of care is expensive and a burden to most. I love her and will do everything in my power to ensure that the rest of her life will be filled with love and the best care that I can give her. I will never use any animal for capital gain. Nor would I do anything that would put my pets in harms way. If a Vet were to tell me that having 1 litter would put my dog's health at risk, I would surley take his advise..He is my brother and I trust him. I add to this thread my story about this Breeder and I find that the only thing that mattered is that I said I wanted to breed my dog at least 1 time. And that the breeder said she would be 3-4 pounds. My Harley is a tiny boy and she knew that. She said I should take her because she was going to be bigger than him and the female needed to be bigger. So pick me apart to the extent that I am defending myself to a bunch of people that don't know me, and never will. I recently met a pro dog judge as I stated before. In conversation with her about kenneling dogs while on vacation, she doesn't because she said that she doesn't believe in shots. None of her own dogs get any shots of any kind. So she must find an independent person to dog sit while she is away. I bet all of you would tear her up in a conversation too. For those of you who care about the fact that their AKC registered pets that were purchased from the Halpin Mills aren't qualified to be AKC registered, I hope that this thread doesn't deter you from standing up for your rights to fight against such deciet and hope people like the Halpins get shut down for good. |

I just wanted to make sure you were aware of the risks for not spaying your female: Female dogs which are not spayed are at risk for several illnesses and problems that spayed dogs do not face. These risks include: development of pyometra - a severe and often fatal infection of the uterus of an unspayed female dog. mammary tumors - dogs spayed at an early age are much less likely to develop breast tumors as they get older. dystocia - difficult births. Some female dogs have difficulty delivering their puppies. In such cases, medical intervention may become necessary. Surgical intervention in the form of a caesarian section often becomes necessary in order to save the lives of the mother and the puppies. Dystocia, if left untreated, can be fatal for the mother as well as the puppies. Medical or surgical intervention is not always successful in saving these pets. eclampsia - a calcium deficiency which can develop in dogs during pregnancy or while nursing puppies. Eclampsia can become a fatal condition. Should you choose to proceed to breed your female, I hope you take the necessary steps to ensure the health of you girl: Remember, you were deceived by the breeder you got your dogs from. Therefore, your pups may not be healthy enough to breed or produce healthy puppies. I am sure with your experience with taking care of a dog with health difficulties you would not want to purposely have sick puppies. | |

Through this forum they have learned what a reputable breeder is about, the right way of chosing a breeder. If it isn't what you bargained for or bought.....then you probably went the right route by buying your dogs via the internet and a broker.....so, you got what you paid for.
