| ![]() OMG, I bet you were surprised. Congratulations!!! Did she break all the sacs and cut the cords herself or did you assist? I am so happy your first whelping went smoothly, even if you were up half of the night. I bet next time when she is doing a lot of digging you will pay attention. ![]() |

Now how much should they be nursing at this point? And I'm not sure about the last placenta? The vet is supposed to call today anyways so I'll be asking him but now I'm just worried about everything I've read. Eclampsia, fading puppy or a retained placenta. I thought I would feel more at ease once they were born but instead I'm more worried! | |

| ![]() The pups should be nursing at least every two hours. Most of my moms will stay right with the pups the first few days. Sometimes the first day after having pups the mom won't want to even get out of the box to use the bathroom. Have you checked to see how much milk mom has? Are all the pups latching on strongly? The pups suckling will make the uterus contract and the last placenta should come out on its own. I always monitor the moms temperature the first few days. The temperature should not go over 102.5. As long as she does not start running a temperature she should be fine until tomorrow if you want to take her in for a checkup. I don't take mine in unless I feel there is a problem. Do you have a heating pad under the pups? Make sure the mom can get off of it and don't make to room too hot for the mom. When a mom gets to hot it can greatly effect her milk production. |

| ![]() Her temp was 102 an hour or so ago but I'm gonna take it again in a few minutes. I am a little concerned as she does seem to be panting, not constantly but still.... she also does not want me out of her sight! She flips out if I leave the room. If I'm in the room, she does tend to the babies but if I leave, she follows. I shut the door and had lunch and she barked the whole time and when I got back, one of the babies was out of the whelping box. Is this normal or should I be concerned? I already emailed the vet and I'm waiting on a reply but was hoping someone could put my mind at ease.... |

| ![]() The panting is normal. The light contractions will continue for a while and she will pant because when they make milk it makes them hotter. How warm is the room she is in? Around 76 degrees would be fine, like I said you don't want the room too hot or it will effect the momma's milk production. These spoiled mommas to have a tendency to not know how to act. They will want to be with you but they want to be near their puppies too. Hopefully she will settle down to a routine soon. It can get very frustrating until that happens. It would worry me that a puppy got out of the whelping box already. What kind of box are they in? They need to be in a box that has about a 6 to 8 inch lip on it so the pups can't get dragged out or crawl out. Has the momma ate anything yet? I usually have to hand feed mine the first few days. |

| ![]() I would not give her Cal-sorb at all. I only use it for emergency situations. All my females get is 1/2 of a Doc Roy's Healthy Bone twice a day. Plus mine get their dry food mixed with some canned Pedigree Lamb and Rice puppy food. I have just never heard of giving Cal-sorb as a daily supplement, it has a tendency to make the momma nauseous. With my last litter I delivered in our bedroom and after all the pups were delivered we moved the momma dog to the spare bedroom, before I closed the x-pen gate she did pickup a puppy and try to bring it to our bedroom. Once I closed the gate she settled down and stayed with the pups. Welcome to the crazy world of breeding. ![]() |

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | ![]() CONGRATULATIONS! Glad they are all healthy, but I've never bred a dog so can't comment on their size.

| ![]() Congratulations on your new litter. Those are very nice sizes, not to big and not to small. |
