| ![]() I came accross this video that shows the birth of the litter, cutting the cord and a few days later, the tail docking and the dew claw removal. I must warn you, this video is very graphic and is not something everone can watch! ![]() |

| ![]() When I got Mimi's pups' tails docked at the vet...the technician cut 3 of the babies' tails too short, while the doc did the other 2 exactly where I told her I wanted it. Well, a few days later, one of the boy's tail that was cut too short was having circulatory problems & I could see the cartiledge! I took him back to the vet & a technician had the nerve to tell me 'In nature, the weakest one dies' ![]()

| ![]() At what age did the vet do the tail docking for you in the past? I docked a litter of Boxer pups once at 3 days..and I thought they should have been done at one day...the tails were quite big by then. I have done Min Pins for a show breeder and she said the same as for Yorkies... Do you know any Boxer breeders to ask? Good Luck PS..I am totally against banding...use the clamp. |

| ![]() Oh wow.... this thread gives me the "creepies". We just had our second Aussie litter and I have to say that the 15 minutes that the 5 pups spent with the vet with Mom waiting outside was WAY easier than doing this all myself. I love our vet though and he docks them just perfectly. I say leave it to the vet IF if you trust him/her or get a lot stronger than I am to do it yourself! More power to ya'll!! ![]()

| ![]() Thanks for your reply, I just watched the clamp and twist and that looked easy the bleeding just worried me. I do have blood stop liquid and powder. I have a friend who done the banding on 6 liters and now problem, 3 to 5 days tail falls off. No bleeding at all. I guess what works for you stick with that. I also watched on youtube where the dewclaw was clamped then scraped off with a fingernail. I know to keep everything clean and there will be no problem. |

| ![]() Clamp the dew claw the same way as the tail and twist..I know this gives the pet owners the "creepies"..but my vet taught me many things so I would not have to bring the pups into the clinic...like a hospital, that is where the really creepy stuff is..sickness. I am not fond of banding a breed like a Yorkie...and since I only know Yorkies, I perfer the clamp and twist...neat, clean, no blood, rarely need a stitch and never had infection as with cutting/sutures. Best wishes... |

But what that tech said to you is so outrageous, it's hysterical. I would like to tell him that "nature" doesn't charge money. What an a$$. I'm sorry, I'm LMAO at how stupid a statement that was. | |
