| Puppy SalesPitch I have a question for you breeders and anyone else interested in answering. I've been looking into a few breeders locally. The breeder has a few retiring females, older puppies and some 12 weeks old. I mentioned to her that I wanted an older dog, but she is inclined to "push" the puppy idea to me. All her dogs are resonably priced, but the price doesn't matter to me much. It's the quality of the dog, the time I have to devote to training etc and the ability to know if dog is good with children. Is it common for breeders to push the puppy rather than the older rehomes etc? |

| I don't think so.. of course all I have are puppies for sale. I would never sell me adults and even if they weren't able to produce pups I would spay and keep them. Maybe she is taking into consideration that a puppy is a whole lot more work :-) She would probably rather open the door and let an older one out instead of cleaning up potty pads :-) good luck with your search Don't let anyone sway you from what your heart says!!!

| If I were the breeder, and someone asked me for an older dog......I would be thrilled to find a retired mommy a wonderful home, after all, she deserves a forever home after her service to the breeder!! Maybe she is pushing the puppies because they are more expensive, and if they don't sell when they are young, she will have to drop the price. If you want an older dog, I think that is wonderful! Stick to what you want, and don't be pushed into anything!

| I would NEVER EVER try to push any dog/pup on anyone. I love my babies way too much to try to place them in a home that might not be right. With that said, I might be able to help you - I live in Rome, Georgia, so I am not very far from you. |

| I've never sold an adult of mine but I have sold older pups. When I speak to someone about what they're looking for, I try to steer them toward the pup, be it younger or older, that I think would be the best fit for them. After all, I know my dogs much better than anyone ever could based on a first impression. Whether it's an older or younger dog, my main concern is to place them in the best home for that particular dog. I don't think it's in the dog's best interest to think about anything else. Sometimes, I may not have what a particular person is looking for and I'm quick to tell them so. There's nothing worse, to me, than placing a dog in any home where it's not the best situation for the pup or the new parents. If someone is trying to steer you towards a dog for any other reason, maybe you should look elsewhere. |
