Default Puppy SalesPitch

I have a question for you breeders and anyone else interested in answering. I've been looking into a few breeders locally. The breeder has a few retiring females, older puppies and some 12 weeks old.

I mentioned to her that I wanted an older dog, but she is inclined to "push" the puppy idea to me. All her dogs are resonably priced, but the price doesn't matter to me much. It's the quality of the dog, the time I have to devote to training etc and the ability to know if dog is good with children.

Is it common for breeders to push the puppy rather than the older rehomes etc?
