| Stud Fee?? I have a 1 1/2 year old boy yorkie. I have a ad for him to be studded out. A lady called me and said she was interested. She said she would pay 500 or give pick of the litter. He is AKC, 3 lbs, and we live in houston. AKC yorkies run from 800 to about 1200 in Houston. Does this sound reasonable? Is 500 right? |

| Yes and no on the fee. HI, I would say its a tough call. Have you shown the stud? Is he a CH or have points? Does he have CH as parents or GP's? Does he have any outstanding limitations/drawbacks you can see. Has he breed before, and if so the results? You need to decide how you want to handle this for yourself. Its always a gamble on the stud when accepting the pick of the litter as payment because; is the bitches owner honest, has the bitch breed befor, whats the bitches line? Also, there is several doggy-VD's you need to be worried about if mom is an active girl. ONE thing is have an IRON clad agreement, and you host the mating. Do to http://dianesyorkies.com/stud.htm and look at our agreement. Modify it as you need to to fit your situation. ONE THING, You CAN Accept the funds as ESCROW...to hold untill a viable pup is born and identified, then swap back the funds ($500) for the pup when its old enough. THIS allows you to have something "in your pocket" to assure your not going to be short changed, and you can sell the pup later. Lots of options huh? Good luck |

| Stud Fee? Is this your boy's first time at stud? If so - a stud fee isn't usually charged to "prove" a stud. With a small stud, injuries can occur especially with a young stud. Are you experienced in handling this? If not I would recommend finding someone that is, you would not want him scared on his first time as this can discourage him. |

| I have heard a lot of people say they never charge on the first time B/C of the male never being breed before, so You dont know if he can even make babies. I would charge and $500 sounds good to me . Or the pick of the litter , I would make sure every thing is in writing and signed, Make out a good contract.and make sure you have asked every thing that you need to know about their female. Be very carefull when breeding your male out, There is a lot they can catch Just like us humans, Dogs carrie infections and VD. I would also make sure that the owner of the Female has had her dog checked out. You dont want your babie catching any thing. I had a lady that wanted to use my male as a stud, We almost did it until she wanted to keep my male for a week or two. there was no way I was gonna let my Babie leave me that long. And Do you know the Breeder? |

| well, ive never done it before. However, i have a girl to and she in her second heat at this moment. He is very much interested. We are going to let the two of them mate. The lady has done this before but her usual stud has passed away. She has a girl that will go into heat in the next few months. She said that she will call me when the time comes. Hopefully by the time that she calls me, my girl will be showing signs of prenancy. I live across the street from the vet, so i will be bringing her in a few weeks for a check up. |

| But MEMnGIRL is not paying she will be getting the $500, so if that person is willing to pay, what the heck.. How big is the bitch?? If she is big you might rather take the $500 and not the pick of the litter. What happens if there is only one surviving pup?? Is the bitch healthy?? These are things you need to look into .. Good luck

Donating YT 14K Club Member | I live in Victoria and the going rate in my town is $500. I've studded my male out 3 times and have another potential person wanting to use him. The last time, Chester bred with a bitch that was almost 3 times his size. I had to assist in the breeding. Since this was a new person using him, I had her pay $250 up front and $250 will be due when I sign the papers for her to send to AKC. Pick of the litter is too high. I would never charge for that nor would I pay that. Good luck!

| i dont think that her girl is very big. She told me that my boy would be the perfect size that she is looking for. Still, when she calls again, I will be more specific on my questions. I want to do this right. |
