I think the main concern of people selling to people who want to breed is that they are providing a breeding dog to someone who has taken the time to educate themselves on the process first and who is willing to proceed with it in an ethical, responsible manner...not just someone wanting to breed for money. How is a breeder supposed to know who has honorable intentions in mind? Just take their word for it? Unfortunately, you can't do that these days.
As far as children....depends on the child. I have a 7 year old who is better with these dogs than alot of adults I know. She had it drilled into her head from a very early age. But again, how is a breeder supposed to know? Take someone's word for it? A breeder retains the right to place one of their dogs in an environment THEY feel comfortable with. Alot of children are not brought up to know how to handle dogs and if a breeder is not comfortable taking that chance, that is their right.

I don't plan to have any children for several reasons...but I was telling someone the other day that one reason I'm not having kids is so that I won't have any problems finding a yorkie. LOL My dogs will be my children

My hubby already told me if I die first, and we still have this many dogs, he would have to rehome them all...he travels for a living...I have 4 inside dogs, and all 4 trained to piddle pads, know exactly where you're coming from..

Hmm, well maybe you paid top $$$ for your precious baby who has ears like a Papillion and you don't even realize it because puppy love is blind.

My friend brought a girl from a "top breeder" and paid 3,500 and at 1 year old, the dog weighs over 10 pounds. She would never say anything because the dog is the love of her life. Well, that's what these breeders count on and you, the pet buying public are being had and what's more, the sweet people who sell you these dog, know they are taking advantage of you but smiling to your face and chatting you up and down.

Don't pay top price from any breeder who does not actively show their dogs. There is a big difference in quality and there should be a big difference in price.

Well I dont know if you seen my post in general, but my cousin who is 30 just accidentally killed her dog the very same way just the other day. Accidents happen to people of all ages, probably more so with adults than children. I know by far more adults that have accidentally killed their dogs (running them over with the car, letting them out to run into the street, leaving antifreeze where it shouldnt be, etc.) from when I worked in the vets office. I never had a dog come in that had been injured by a child. Not saying it doesnt happen, because it does, but it happens all the time with adults more so.
I have raised my babies with my dogs. My kids are taught from birth how to handle animals. I think it would be rediculous to never have had my dogs because I didnt want my kids to break them. I want my children to love animals just as much as I do, and withholding animals from them would be counterproductive.
I understand that a breeder has a right to sell to whomever they want. With my shih tzus, I always prefer they go to a home with children. I dont want them to become little nippy crabs because they were never around children. I think children help shape a dog into a friendlier pet.
My grandma has my Joe's brother Murphy. Everytime we ar there the dog runs and hides and if my kids try to touch him, he nips at them. Joe would never do that.

Why Lee you do get to sleep in! Around her my babies are up between 5 and 6 every morning. They don't recognize weekends or holidays, they think dad always has to get up at that time. And a nap? Try getting 7 dogs to all get sleepy when you actually have the time to take a nap. As soon as you get everyone settled someone hears something and off they go a barking! Believe me I wouldn't do this if I didn't love it because I could make more money working a job that pays minimum wage and get alot more sleep! I've been up since 3:45, they are presently sleeping and I'm not.

They tell you their horror stories about how they had a c-section and lost all the puppies, and yes, it happens, but how about the 4 other litters they produced with 4 puppies each that you sold for $5,000.00 (or more) per litter? It's not a crime but it is a fact that for some reason, nobody wants to admit! Why shouldn't a breeder make a few bucks for all the work they do to produce top Yorkies that people want? Even if they put it back into their dogs, they do it because that's what they want to do... It's their money.

(I'm not talking about pet pushers here, I'm sorry, I find them to be like hillbillies because they refuse to go forward and improve their dogs and don't even see that their dogs are below standard)

You sound like a very knowledgeable dog owner that has knows the responsibilities of owning a dog. When you talk to a potential puppy buyer and ask questions you can get a feel as to if you think they will be suitable parents to your puppies. If someone calls that has very small children under 6 years old, and they say there have never had a small house dog and they don't know anything about caring for a young puppy then I nicely explain what all is involved in caring for a puppy when there are small children in the house and the dangers involved. If, after talking to them, I don't think they would be suitable parents I say 'I prefer not selling my puppies to homes with small children, I hope you understand'. I get no arguments and most people are very understanding. Now, if the person has small children and the people already have a Yorkie or have had experience with small dogs and I feel they would be responsible owners then I would sell them a puppy. I see ads all the time on a local site where people sell dogs and the people say they are selling their Yorkie because they are afraid their children will hurt it. The same can be said for people that work full time jobs, I see ads from people selling their Yorkie because after them newness wears off, they realized how much responsibility the Yorkies are and they don't have quality time for them. As for selling pups with full registration, that is something I had always done because that is how I was taught but now I am trying to do things differently and be more discriminating as to who I give breeding rights to. It is our responsibility as breeders to try and place our puppies in suitable homes and educated the new owners.

:thumbup: this is EXACTLY how I feel...the way I look at it, is if a puppy jumps out of the arms of a child, it most likely isn't going to die(kids are so short), but, the last few yorkies I've heard of dying, have jumped out of an adults arms or have been accidentally killed by an ADULT..not a child...my kids, and now my g-kids were always raised to know how to treat and to respect dogs..my g-daughter is 5 and terrible(not the mean way), but, she loves these dogs so much, she won't leave them alone..they kiss her in the mouth, and she loves it..she goes out with the big dogs and throws their balls, she's just fantatic..I've seen adults (yes, adults, that say I'd never hit a puppy), actually do just that, my g-daughter would hit her mom before ever hitting a puppy...

8 AM wow thats late around here! I am up as early as 4 am and latest I get to sleep in is 6 am if I am really really lucky and theres a blue moon out, hahaha. I have your routine too and it is a constant thing with no long breaks what so ever. Heck just today I was up at 4:30 am and the 2 pups were stinky girls so they got a bath and blow dry before I even get my first cup of morning coffee. I put my babies first and myself last around here.
