Yep, the YTCA code of ethics is definitely a great starting place when determining if a breeder is reputable or not

I know, buyers should go through the list and create their questions there. And from there create more smaller questions (like know exactly what types of test their dogs needed to be tested of).

All my yorkies are tested for patellar , hips , thyroid , heart , eyes , liver shunt. So I don't consider I make a fortune with them .

I agree with you that there are breeders on YT that breed unethically! There is actually a handful of breeders who breed females in the 2-4lbs range...and what's worse is that there are other breeders on YT that praise these breeders! These same breeders charge $5000 to $10000 for "tiny" pet puppies and claim that they can charge whatever they feel their baby is worth. Yes, we all like to think our babies are priceless, but $10000 for a pet yorkie? That is just "silly talk" (taking this from the debate last night, thanks Obama :)). My breeder is a retired show breeder and sold pet quality pups in the $800 to $1200 range. Another point, there are breeders on YT that shouldn't breed...Sires and Dams that don't BEST represent the Yorkie breed... there will always be people who shouldn't that do. Yes, it's sad. The truth is that EVERYONE Has to be careful when purchasing a puppy, even if your fellow YTer recommended a breeder...you just HAVE to do your homework. Period.

However, I don't agree that ANYONE should be creating a new Yorkie. There is a standard already in place. If they are looking to create a new standard, more power to them, but what they have created isn't a Yorkie...but something else.

I agree with everything you have said. You just have a way with words.. The Yorkie is such a beautiful breed, it is sad to see what people have done with it. I think it's awesome when I meet owners/breeders who recognize this and want this amazing breed to live on... :thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup:

I see breeders with not even half the quality of a dog that should be bred. But they breed them and end up getting a lot of money from the litter and get a better quality, just to be able to get more money and say they 'have some of the best around.' Not to better the breed, but to be able to show that they now have a greater quality and and are able to charge more... Then some are also using showing as a way to jack up the price even more because a champion sired/grandsired pup is sought after for breeding.

Yes, there are unethical show breeders as well. You have to be cautious with any breeder
