I have a core pack of 5 right now and 2 pups from my last litter that I'm holding for show potential that are 4 months old. The adults have a tendency to pair off and everyone is patient with the pups but they don't really bond with them. Their mother still plays with them on occasion but is more interested in the adults in the pack and the puppies pretty much entertain each other. My gals seem to enjoy their roles as moms but by the time the pups are 12 weeks old they are starting to get on mom's nerves. It's kinda like when your kids grow up. I loved having my kids in my home but I didn't have them so that they could live with me forever. My 24 year old is on his own and I must admit that I will be more than ready when my 21 year old strikes out on her own!

I know me and my siblings got on my mothers nerves, but she didn't want to sell us. Although there were times she wanted to. LOL. As me with my kids. As them with their kids. I love, love love my little pup, who is a boy but if he were female I could never do that to her. And like me and many, many others have stated that they are our fur kids and family. Why is it so hard for people to just fess up and say they do it for the money and not the feelings of the poor mother. Mind you, I'm am not saying everyone. But this over breeding has got to stop.

I understand what you are saying, however as Ladyhawk described, dogs have a different attitude than we do. It's true that if they were human it would be a cruel thing. And, although we sometimes treat them as if they are human :), the reality is that they are not. Dogs have a different type of connection with their pups than we do with our babies. They do not bond with them in the same way. Truly loving our furbabies means that we also respect their inherent traits as dogs, not try to make them into humans. :) (I have to admit I am guilty of this at times as well)

If you show them and have to purchase all of the showing fees...etc...then maybe not but for the ones that don't show and sell their puppies for that much....MAKES NO SENSE!!!! Just say that you have 2 females and they have 4 puppies each...=8 puppies..and say that you sell each of them for $1000 ea. You made $8000....ok say that they have a c-section and that was 2000....you still have $6000....You made money!!!!!!!!

To the naked eye, what you say appears true. I can definitely see how you would feel this way. However, as has been mentioned, this does not take into account the myriad other expenses involved. You may see Yorkies advertised for $1000 from breeders who do not do testing, etc........but in most cases they are not actually selling for that. They are selling for much less, which is reasonable, as the breeder's expenses are less. Pups from a breeding with only the expenses you mention generally are selling for $300-$500, depending on area.

I have learned in every aspect of my life that what looks good on paper, isn't alwayss reality. hardly ever, in fact.

you forgot to add puppy shots for those dogs, worming, health checks, food, etc, etc. By the time you are done paying you are a far way from making that kind of money.. Plus if you are any kind of decent breeder, when those pups leave your home they go with toys they are familiar with, crate that they are used to and a blanket/bed that they are used to. that all costs too.

Have U ever watched "Cesar Millan" of the "Dog Whisper Show??? He knows these dog breeds everyone of them he can explain this to U better then we can!! If U haven't watched his show I suggest U do he's a fantastic Gentleman who sees the DOG breed as they are DOGS!!!!!!!!!! NOT HUMANS, INFANTS, CHILDREN, TEENAGERS or SENIORS!!! Just what they are DOGS!!!
As far as admitting we make money, have U ever lived off of or paid U're monthly bills breeding Yorkies???? No one would get very far and U'd see tons of homes & cars lost to making a living breeding Yorkies...Let alone loosing U're Yorkie!!! There is no money here to be made WHY can't that be UNDERSTOOD???? Weither U're a breeder of Show Quality Yorkies or Pet Quality Yorkies and I don't mean back Yard Breeder Quality either!! There is a difference...Maybe U need to read up on our Breed....That may help U to understand...Here we're talking about breeding, raising and adopting out good quality even some of the BEST quality Yorkies U could ever in U're life time ask for!!! There for it takes money to put back into those precious dolls to get them in top condition health and coat and mental wise, this just don't happen by throwing 2 dogs together as U may view it and seeing what U get, there's people out here that get up at 2 and 3 am just to get their babies ready for a show, let alone the traveling time and lets not forget all the money they spend to get to this point in their lives let alone getting their Yorkies to this point!! Why can't U just admit maybe there are people out there that don't make money in this???? And guess what I don't even show babies! But I've came to this board to learn and I've learned so much here, people here are full of wisdom and they are willing to share it with us so I think we should sometimes listen to what they say about Yorkies!!!

As much as we treat our dogs like people, they are not human. They don't get attached to their puppies like we would our children. They have a natural instinct to mother their young and care for them, but then they are ready for them to move on and start their own lives. I've been around some dogs and their older puppies...they are ready for them to go LOL. If dogs felt the same way humans did about their children, they wouldn't breed with them if given the opportunity (dogs will mate with their offspring or parents if they are around..). It's just not the same

This is so true. As with any well laid financial plan, you have to factor in all of the "Oh Sh*ts"

But all of the stuff that you buy extra for the puppies will be less than $1,000. If I was going with what she was saying, then there still will be thousands in profit.

Vet visits (shots, docking, check ups, etc.... If you don't do it yourself) COULD be $100 per pup.. But with an average of about 4 pups that is only $400.
Toys.. Let's say about $5/toy and maybe 5 toys each will come to about $100 for the litter
Crates.. In Austin, I can get a new traveling crate for about $25-$40, so add another $150
Misc (blankets, books, bed, etc.) could come to about $50 extra per pup, so that adds another $200
Then (if this is the first litter if the breeding pair) you will subtract $500 each per testing
Which makes the total to about $1900... $6000 - $1900= a lot of profito...lol...

What you describe isn't a real good defense...

I already know for a fact many breeders make profits, NO ONE will admit it so there isn't any need to make a defense because everyone will deny it or say that they make little. And then some will say that their profit only goes to the next litter and yadda, yadda, yadda..... Who cares anymore. you can't change anyone view on this because there are so many judgemental people on YT and sometimes people get intimidated and are in fear of not being liked on here. Everyone denies everything, and it's very sad because I can tell some people put up fronts to appear better...

I guess I shouldn't speak anymore on this topic, because I don't have anything nice to say to some people :(
