If I was a breeder I wouldn't sell to someone with young children. I know several people have young children and yorkies and it works, and I know adults can hurt the yorkies as well...but the fact is, a young child around a yorkie increases its risk of getting hurt. If I were placing a puppy, I'd put it in a home that I thought was the least risk for a puppy. Lacy normally is not around children but when she has been, she's been find around them. Once, we had a big surprise party for my grandmother at my parents house, and my cousins brought their young children. Two were very well-behaved and left the dogs alone. The other two were constantly trying to chase them. Lacy was smart and knew how to get out of their way, but Rylie kept getting caught and they were trying to pick him up (and he did NOT like that at all). I finally had to just hold Lacy and Rylie most of the time until the kids left. |

Most likely Riley didn't like it, because he's never been socialized around children, and socializing them with children is very good...mine are all fantastic with my g-kids, even 4 1/2 pound Ginger is all over them when they come over...kids and dogs are actually very good for eachother... |
We adopted Clyde to a family with a younger child who was 5, they had a Dachshund and Clyde was going to be larger Yorkie! When I myself said I wouldn't adopt to a home with younger children I mean like toddlers!! They can and do fall on puppies any puppy my granddaughter at age 2 does it even tho she herself has been around our Yorkies since her birth!! I would never ever attempt to have babies or toddlers with raising Yorkies and I don't see how U all with them can do it and I look up to U for doing it...I just know I have 2 younger children ages 9 & 12 and 5 yorkies and I keep my Yorkies as clean as I do my children with doing their hair and cleaning their area that they live in with that being said is a job in itself!! I couldn't imagen changin' diapers, burping, being up all night with infants and running with toddlers all day long and taking care of Yorkies...And yeah when I have to go somewhere to my part time job or run to the store I myself have to get up like 2 hours earlier to get my Yorkies cleaned and up and going let alone myself, so needless to say I don't wear makeup and my hair stays in a pony tail here at home lol! I guess I want my Yorkies to be nicer looking then myself lol!! And I never go visit anyone I'm lucky if I go see my parents!! |

I would have to say most good vets would not spay at 12-14- weeks especially a small yorkie or smaller breeds! My vet wouldnt touch them at that age and he has been a vet for 30 plus years! I know some will just for the money not for the health of the dog. |

The bigger clinics around here do charge more than the smaller vets. So to say they get more money ya they do,and care if they spay to early nope they do not! You would not find a good vet around here who would spay a pup under 4 months especially the smaller breeds and mostly for health reasons. Dosent cost anymore around here to spay at 12 weeks or 10 years. So more money for those vets in your area if you wait I guess! |

Thank you for posting this. I knew that I disagreed with hha's statement as my Reno had a wonderful vet that did neuter him at 14 weeks. His breeder took care of this before I ever got him, as she does with all of her pet placements. I appreciated it too, as it was less worry for me later. If I were to ever consider breeding, this would be my policy too. No way would I put my heart, soul, time and hard work into raising my own line, to have some unscrupulous byb come along take my dogs and raise pups to sell. And, it is a cost I would add on to the price of the pup. |
