| Deana, I was thinking of sending her the same information. I am glad you did. Delores - I know how hard it is. Since I have returned to yorkies/showing and now live in Georgia and in the country it is harder than when I lived in Florida. I had some great mentors near me (and so many), to show, and to meet and discuss the breed. But if you really want to you will find a way. I have driven far from my area to be involved. I work fulltime too and I am no spring chicken. You just have to make the dive in and try. I was lucky when I first started showing back in the 70's - 80's and lived in Florida. I had very knowledgable yorkie people around me (show exhibitors) some of the very top yorkie people. I was close to shows and meetings and watch, listened, and learned. I have used that knowledge and my own past experience to further and catch up after returning (over the past 2.5 years). I am a member of my local all-breed AKC club. There is not a yorkie club in Georgia, so can't join that or I would. I have been invited to others in other states and I may take them up on that - just to meet and learn even more. I know it will be a distance to travel, but most likely worth it. I do also learn a lot at my local all-breed club. Definantly worth going. It really makes a difference and you learn so much more by seeing and feeling - so much better than photos. Best of luck to you. T. Last edited by topknot; 01-25-2008 at 07:27 AM. |

Well, I am aware of all three of them. Robert Owens is almost unapproachable. he stood me up three times to come to the conformation class. Connie, I don't want to fool with right now. For reasons I won't put on the board. Anna, same thing. but might have to go that way. | |

| Don't be discouraged Dee. Anything worth having is worth working hard for. Hopefully Laurie will be able to come to the Specialty in March. If she does watch her like a hawk. She's been showing since she was 10 years old and she really knows what she is doing. Yorkies may still be relatively new to her but she knows dogs and she has a good eye. I watched and pestered and prayed for a year and a half for a mentor and finally got one. I was so relieved because I felt like I had gotten as far as I could on my own. Do you have a breed club around? There is a gold mine of resources at the breed clubs and the members are usually willing to help once they know that you are sincere. Hang in there!
