Did I say you were a BYB, Dee? You've started showing with UKC. Find a mentor or stick with Rose as a show buddy and keep it up. If you want to produce excellence you're only going to acheive it through education. Learning from those who have gone before you in the show ring is the place to start. Some things require hands on and personal eye examination and that can be found at shows and breed club meetings.

Oh my gosh isn't that the truth! I don't know Sugar's Mom and I'm not directing anything at her But for me hands on and by attending shows and my breed club I learned so much and I still continue to learn by going to the shows. I've met some wonderful people. I wouldn't be where I am today if not for my mentors and going and continuing to show!
Personally, I don't care for the breeding aspect of this, showing is where my passion lies..

I'd be a doggy midwife if there was a call for it but showing is where the education and the contacts are made. It's easy to evaluate the obvious, the topline, earset, balance in the face and squareness of the body. Where I still need help is in evaluating a good front and rear, correct pasterns, and proper angulation. In so many areas correct structure is related to soundness as in bowlegged rear contributing to LPs. It's all connected and just too important to not get out there and put the work in to learn all that I can. Some day I hope to have developed a great eye, for now I'll pass everything through my mentor and other show veterns.

By the way, I noticed that Groveshires has Squirrel's Porshe Boxster now. Are any of your dogs out of him? He was part of my pedigree search for Carly, she is his great grand daughter.

I've always been fascinated with dog and cat shows. I think it would be so much fun to show personally. But, like you, I have no interest in breeding. Even if I have a show quality animal one day, I don't want to breed it....too much work LOL. Dog shows seem to be so different than cat shows. I've been to more cat shows than dog shows & both of my cats came from show breeders (my youngest one came from a wonderful show breeder that I've had many conversations with). In the cat world, there is also a spayed/neutered class called Premiership...the standards are still the same, but the cat is spayed/neutered. I may be interested in trying that out one day...buying a show quality cat from my breeder and showing in premiership. I would be all fun and no breeding Because cats have a spayed/neutered class, it's easier to get into the cat show world. If you've gained the trust of a cat show breeder, they'll sell you a spayed/neutered show-quality cat to show in premiership...it teaches you how to show and gets you started in the show world...without them worrying about you screwing up their lines. I think it's kindof neat. Maybe I'll try that out one day. Showing dogs sounds fun to, but probably more than I'm willing to get involved in LOL. I'll probably just stick to buying well-bred pets

Sorry...I know that was really kindof off-topic but just something I'm personally interested in

Hey anything that is light and fun to talk about is always a breath of fresh air...but I'm not really into cats LOL...I do breed but I'm not fond of it but it sorta comes with my passion. If I didn't have to breed I wouldn't but I can't afford to purchase a show dog every year LOL and then show it and then again breeding isn't cheap either...but at least I have my own dam and sire which I think are the best! I love my male! He's the ultimate in my opinion LOL...I just love his lines!

I guess I just think it's neat that the cat show world has a place for spayed/neutered cats too. So you can still show but not breed. The spayed/neutered cats are held to the same standard as the unaltered cats. I guess there is really no point to the Premiership other than fun & the love of showing since you aren't breeding these cats, but I think it's a fun option for those that love to show but don't want to breed. And, like I said, it makes it easier on showing newbies because most cat show breeders are willing to sell a spayed/neutered cat to someone to show in premiership because they can't screw up the breeders lines. So it's a good way for a showing newbie to get started out in the show world

No, you didn't and I was only joking around with you. I know you know I am showing a little. AND, I am hoping to meet you real soon and learn from you

It is so hard to find a mentor in this area. Rose and I have had to wing it on our own with the showing andd breeding also. The show breeders we know here are no more than a puppymill so we don't want to fool with them and as far as regular breeders, well, Rosse and I are about the only ones that have a decnet breeding program. One of the disadvantages of living in rural kentucky. Even most of the shows are an eight hour drive for us so we are really limited but trying hard.

Delores here is three Show breeders/YTCA members in KY.
