| from what i know...i could be wrong, but acr is american canine registry. most large kennels use this registry because it is very inexpensive. all you have to do is register the dog with no background knowledge of the breed. large kennels do this as a means to say "registered puppies/dogs" to make it sound better. most puppy stores have this reg b/c these puppies comes from large kennels, commercial breeders and puppy mills. i run when i see acr

| I had never heard of them before. I have heard of several others and several new up-start ones in the past few years since AKC started requiring DNA for Male Stud dogs. But never ACR. It was made to sound like in another thread in Gen Discussion that ACR controls what YTCA and AKC do. |

| From what I read on the web site, they dont use outside breed standards, ,dont do kennel inspections, all pedigrees are based on info submitted by an indiviual wishing to get their animal registered in the ACR data base, and they claim that registration does not now nor will it ever mean purebred. That sounds like a "top of the line" registry to me!!LOL |

| It is my understanding that a couple of these "breeders" that have chocolates are planning on applying to this ACR registry for a "Rare Breed" for the Chocolate Yorkshire Terriers. They are not a rare breed, they are Yorkshire Terriers. And they believe that by doing this they can then "create" a new breed with registration allowed at AKC and then allowed to show this new "Rare Breed". They are not a "rare breed", they are Yorkshire Terriers. |

Since the YTCA is a club who's standards only allow and are solely for the "Blue and Tan" yorkshire terrier, I think these chocolate breeders just want to form a club that will accept their "Chocolate" yorkshire terrier. The bottom line, from what I'm understanding, is these breeders are just trying to find a way for their chocolate Yorkshire Terriers to have the same rights and privileges as the Blue and Tan Yorkies have with AKC. If they've figured out a way to start the process that may eventually be eligible for registration with AKC (as a new breed or whatever) than I say good for them! I personally think it would be more feasible - if someone wanted to start a new club or organization - to start one that would allow all the off colored yorkies in - this would include the once shown black and tan and black and gold colors and would also include parti, golden, chocolate and any other recessive colors that may be out there. They'd be starting out with a much larger membership base if they'd include all off colors in their quest. JMO :-)

| Anyone can register ACR, since they do not hold shows I don't find the registration to hold any validity other than the fact that you can say your dog is registered....It doesn't buy you anything except fooling the unsuspecting public. Creating a new breed is a bit more difficult and requires so much more than just registration. Historical data must be tracked and documented. We all know that the Hundred and sixty plus dog breeds that are now AKC registered started somewhere....but, most started long ago when requirements were less stringent than they are now. AKC has trangressed to a registery with many rules, laws, etc.....so, things are tougher. Will these breeder's that are attempting to establish a new breed by registering off colored yorkies be able to do it.....I can't say.

| idea I think I will start my own Yorkie registry...MSY.."My Spoiled Yorkie".. Send me $25 and I will send you a certificate...and I will work on a show for 2008..of course the Yorkies will have to be shown in evening gowns and act totally spoiled... Seriously, anyone can start a registry and make any rules they want... Last edited by YorkieRose; 11-26-2007 at 04:50 AM. |
