Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | ![]() While I'm sure these dogs live terrible lives, this kind of 'solution' should be humiliating to all humanity ![]() ![]() From Huffington Post: 10,000 Stray Dogs To Be Shot In Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan — Officials in the capital of Kyrgyzstan say budgetary constraints are forcing them to shoot the city's estimated 10,000 stray dogs rather than build shelters for them. Bishkek city hall spokesman Pavel Klimenko told The Associated Press on Tuesday that around 5,000 strays were shot last year because the impoverished Central Asian nation couldn't afford kennels that would have cost $300,000. He said the dogs this year are being killed in the early morning and in the evening by a team of 10 shooters and dog catchers. Klimenko urged the world not to consider the act barbaric.

| ![]() how can we not consider it barbaric. it's not like a pack of dangerous wild dogs coming in packs of 5 or so that they are getting rid of to protect livestock. this is 10,000 harmless, homeless dogs that didn't do anything wrong....makes me sick |

| ![]() When I saw the Thread Title, I thought it was referring to a photo shoot. Oh my gosh, it never crossed my mind that it meant they were killing the dogs. ![]() |

| ![]() As barbaric as I think this is, it's quick and better than letting them starve and die a slow, miserable death. If they don't have the funds to take care of them, they simply can't and no amount of wishing this weren't so isn't going to provide for them. Seems ( to me ) that many of the dogs have probably spent a couple generations on the streets fending for themselves, my guess many of them are nearly 'back to the wild' in disposition from sheer desperation and couldn't be resocialized very easily even if there were people that could take them in. Sad situation to be sure.

| ![]() I, perfer to see any dog put down fast as oppose to a slow death from starvation and disease...I doubt there is enough money in that area for proper human care. |

| ![]() I am seriously shocked that any dog lover would rationalize an impoverished country and the killing of stray dogs...10 THOUSAND of them, no less to be even slightly a humane solution to this sort of problem. Wonder how much 10 THOUSAND bullets cost this impoverished country to shoot each of these helpless dogs...and that's IF they hit their mark on the first shot...? ![]() ![]() ![]()

| ![]() For those who think shooting these dogs is remotely humane, may I suggest you read how the lives of 100 sled dogs were killed due to a slump in tourism in British Columbia...real humane! ![]() http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/0..._n_816462.html This article proves my point...that it took repeated shots to take their target down and even that wasn't always enough and so other measures were taken to finish the killings...btw, is British Columbia impoverished?

| ![]() I live in a small Mexican town that has many stray dogs. It is very sad to see the condition they are in, skinny with ribs showing, sores all over, mange, as well as being infested with flees and who knows what else. There is an attempt to spay and neuter, as well as rescue, but there are just too many. These poor animals are suffering, yet they still breed, leading to more suffering. Is it better to put down 10,000 suffering animals or do nothing, leading to 20,000, 30,000 and so on, more suffering animals? I wish I knew the answer. ![]() |

My thoughts are that death is certainly a better alternative then starving and suffering, however the death these dogs are going to face is certainly not going to be a humane one. However, what alternative would they have for 10,000 feral dogs? I would think it would be hard to get near them to catch them let alone be able to administer a humane drug to put them down. Again, I don't condone any of it and do feel that some of the problem lays on the country for letting it get this out of control, but do not think it can be compared to what a company did to these sled dogs to prevent further dollar loss. I pray for these dogs and hope God shows mercy and allows them to die quick, although I know that is probably not going to happen. ![]() I wish there was more that can be done or something to be done to help these animals, but there are so many countries such as China who use dogs and cats as food that are inhume. Do you know in China, they torture the animals before killing them because they believe it brings out flavor or that they skin cats and dogs alive and then boil them also while still alive to preserve the flavor. Not trying to upste anyone, just saying that to me that is an even more inhume thing to do. With this it involves a country who truly do not know what to do or how to control the situation. Again, not making excuses or condoning, just saying there are so many things that are inhumane, even more so then this that is allowed to go on. Elaine

There is nothing humane about 1000's of straving, homeless dogs roaming free..what about disease, rabies, slow death from parvo...painful death from broken legs, fights, infested with fleas, ticks and worms..bitches producing litter after litter... I will even shock you more and say I shoot an animal myself before I would allow endless suffering...things are not going to improve in these countries and they are not going to have the money to build shelters...

This is not the norm in the world...I am a true animal lover..and I would shoot any suffering animal myself, as oppose to a life on the streets, straving, mange, producing litter after litter of pups. You know these dogs suffer serious injuries due to fighting for bitches and food...what a nightmare.. We American's have no clue to the real suffering in the world among people, let alone animals.
