| Actually Jim there are a number of breeds that do not want into AKC because many of their members believe the dogs will be ruined. I had hoped their might be more discussion on the responsibility thread I had posted because this is one of the issues.

| Oh, dang....here I go mixing up threads again....sorry. I ran across the info looking into the PRIME program by AKC. It never occurred to me that it would be more appropriate in the other thread. By putting that info here, I was trying to illustrate that AKC isn't universally held to be the premier registry for many reasons. Jim

| Yes I know but I really would like to discuss who should be held accountable in the health and breeding of dogs here in the US..

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | But why? Who should be accountable? The easy answer is everyone!!. 1. The public for buying dogs that do NOT have health guarantees, warranties call it what you like. Let the public demand THIS from every frigging pet store. Or else no sale. 2. The public for not understanding where these dogs come from and NO it is not only from BYBERS but awh yes what is the acronymn High volumne breeders aka Puppy Mills. 3. The public for not understanding the incredible responsibility of dog ownership, and that despite the current law - these living, intelligent ,loving creatures are NOT just property to be disposed of at your current whim. Hence let me get the "best deal" around mentality - usually translated as the cheapest pet. So who exactly is responsible for educating the PUBLIC? Is it you? Is it Me? HOw do we go about it? If not us then who? The AKC the UKC the HSUS , PETA, some other organization? Who is responsible, who has the organization and potentially the funds available to push through meaningfull dog legislation? Why should the breeding of dogs be under the USDA? The United States Department of Agriculture?????????? Should we strike a new US department to cover pets??? Dogs, and cats? This issue is like the Gorgon, an ugly head with many reaching tentacles. There are so many complexities involved, that a public forum like this is perhaps not the best way to elicit comments from breeders, exhibitors, judges whatever. Study groups, private webbased lectures, is more the way to go.
