You would have to ask your breeder but I doubt that is the reason.

i did and that is what i was told as she is from two breeders and they bred their dogs and when my friend wanted a new maltese I was told the one breeder no longer sells his dogs in US for this reason. Now the other breeder does still sell in US.

I guess I'm not sure how an American breeder could only sell their dogs to the UK, given how long the puppy would have to fly for? A flight to the UK is hard on me, and I'm not going in a bag under a seat!

I haven't heard about this before, though, so I'd be interested to learn more.

The UKC has definitely had its embarrassments, though it's more related to what dwerten posted earlier on show breeders. I'll dig up those links (and the UKC's video response) for the other thread.

yeah i was shocked as demi has been real healthy so i called to find out as my friend wanted a maltese and ended up getting two and i was told he will not sell in US any more I was bummed as if i ever got a maltese again i would want one from these two breeders as she has been great- Oh and my friend was not going to breed either and i said that upfront - I did not get demi from them directly it is a LONG story will not go into it but i did track down who her breeders were when my friend wanted a maltese

I think he flies with them over there - my friend is flying back from Italy with her yorkie next month - isabella lolll she lost two yorkies in two months - one to ct and the other to thrombosis so a breeder offered her a puppy for free so they are going to italy and picking up their new baby and i have a few friends that bought their maltese's from Japan - SHINEMORE i believe that have had them flown in

Side note: Many dogs fly around the world.. in the cargo area in a cage. It happens everyday. Flight times have nothing to do with it.

Right... but I would never put my dog in the cargo area, and I'm sure many others wouldn't either. I'm sure this would be especially traumatic for a puppy. If nothing else, where do they eliminate?

yeah that is another thread lol as i have had a few pilot clients and wow after what i have heard would not do that. Jodi on here her hubby is a flight attendant so she flies pups all over to their families and i would have that done before doing the cargo thing

I think the reason for choosing UKC over AKC would be as varied as breeders are. They aren't one of the 'alternate' registries that have sprung up lately. UKC was founded in 1898 and have primarily been focused on performance events. They now do conformation as well.

The one plus about them is that they've done nothing major to tarnish their reputation, at least as far as I can tell. Can't say that about AKC.

You are getting confused..the UKC had nothing to do with what happened in Crufts...Englands AKC is called The Kennel Club The home for dog owners and those working with dogs - The Kennel Club

You are thinking like a pet owner...Many show breeders ship dogs all over the world...they eliminate in their crates. Many of the Biewers that were first shipped over were under 6 months and most were shipped two at a time. From what I have seen they have not suffered as much as I would have thought..

They are put in a special pressurized section of the plane with food and water.
