YT 500 Club Member | singer sewing machine died! OK ladies, I've had my singer for 25 years. It finally died on me! I need to get me another one quick. What is the best sewing machine on the market these days? Something that can do everything. Especially make ruffles. Help, need advice.

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | Oh my! Bless you! I know that feeling! I am a Brother gal myself but by no means am a professional. Lol. I'm sure some of these other pros can help more than I but now I will tell you what has helped me....going to my local dealer and talking with them. They even let me play and test out. That helps a lot! I already have my serger picked out by doing that but I gotta wait on Santa to swing by and pick it up. Good luck to you!

| I hate to hear that your singer went to sewing heaven. I am afraid that you won't find another one as good without paying big $$$. The "older" singers are the best in my opinion. I have one that I dearly love. However, I also agree with Aymee. I have a Brother PRW that I like too. Try to find one that you can use the same attachments, such as pressure feet. That way you don't have to re-buy all those. My Brother is a low shank, so if it passes, I will look for another low shank. Happy hunting!!!!

| There is a nice older singer on your craigslist for $80. I get most of our machines there or yardsales. People just don't sew much now and get rid of them cheaply! I sometimes fix them up and resell or donate to my daughters friends that want to give sewing a try. |

| In my short life (19 years) I have had multiple sewing machines die on me from over use and I know how awful the feeling is. The best sewing machine on the market is a Bernina but those are pricey, I have a Brother machine that I absolutely love and has so far been able to handle anything I throw at it. I wouldn't suggest purchasing a newer Singer as the quality in the newer machines have gone down but an older one with metal parts would probably be the best. Good luck on your search!

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I love my Husqvarna. They make a really large range of machines so you can get just what you need.

| Oh yeah, Husqvarna Viking machines are very nice, I have never owned one myself but I have worked with someone else's. What type and (if you don't mind me asking) how much was it?

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I have a Designer SE that I purchased in 2005. I *think* I paid about $3500 for it at the time. My husband about killed me , but i justified it because it allowed me to do all my regular sewing, embroidery and quilting on the one machine. Unfortunately, it hasn't gotten as much use as I would have liked the past couple of years since I went back to work full time. I have very intention of remedying that in the near future though. Cali needs a wardrobe!

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Do you have quilt and sewing expos close to you? If so, get cozy with the ladies that sell the machine you like (which ever brand) and ask them to let you know when the expos are coming. The machines that are used in the classes and demonstrations need to be sold afterwards, but they legally can't be sold as new at full price. You can get quite a discount and you will still have a full warranty on them. Most of the machines get less than 10 hours use there.
