| Yorkies are a commitment. Is your daughter going to be going to college while living at home? Can she afford off-campus housing with a place to take care of a Yokrie if she can't? If it's a Yorkie for you, that's great, but I wouldn't get a Yorkie for a 13 year old honestly, there's no guarantee they'll be able to take care of it in 5 years. If it is for you though, good luck in your search, Yorkies are -wonderful- dogs |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Since the Yorkshire Terrier is such a popular breed, too many backyard breeders who know nothing about the breed have started turning out dogs. The price isn’t that much different on a dog from a reputable breeder and a dog from a backyard breeder. The difference is a reputable breeder will stand behind her dogs. Look for a breeder who does testing and understands why it’s important to follow a standard. Having a dog with an inherited genetic illness is not only financially imposing, it can be emotionally devastating. I always recommend the Yorkshire Terrier Club of American. It’s a good place to start, and you can also learn if a Yorkie is right for your family at this time. Please don't buy a dog from someone who would sell the dog to just anyone. They are in the business of selling dogs, they could care less if your dog is a healthy good representative of the breed. Yorkshire Terrier Club of America About The Club

I see that you posted this in the "Rescues & Homes needed" section. It's awesome that you're considering rescuing a Yorkie. I've looked at petfinder in your area and I'm posting some of the dogs I saw: Petfinder Adoptable Dog | Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie | Marblehead, MA | Ratchett Petfinder Adoptable Dog | Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie | Manchester, NH | Sunshine Petfinder Adoptable Dog | Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie | Quincy, MA | Stanley Petfinder Adoptable Dog | Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie | Boston, MA | lobo Petfinder Adoptable Dog | Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie | Taunton, MA | Freddie These are all adoptable dogs in your area. Supporting a backyard breeder just furthers the amounts of dogs in shelters and rescues. Some of those doggies I found were super-adorable Plus, with the young adults, you already know what they're going to grow to look like Good luck in your search !

| Once you've researched the breeder, you must visit the home and see the parents and living conditions. Never put a deposit on a pup sight unseen. And the breeder should be asking you just as many (or more) questions than you are asking him/her...a reputable breeder will not place pups with just anyone. One more thing - the breeder should not be letting the pups go earlier than 10 weeks, or ideally at 12-14 weeks.

| I doubt you will find a quality yorkie in New England for your price point. Even the pet stores charge more than that here for puppy mill dogs.

Usually you'll want to do one of two things to ensure you get a great dog. Find a breeder who's practices and methods you love, or rescue a dog. Your experience was a good one, and that's a great thing, but more often than not, ebay classifieds posters are BYB, brokers, or mill dogs, from what I've seen.

| I just wanted to clarify. I realize after finding YT and reading all about back yard breeders and puppy mills how lucky I was to find Cedric and how lucky I am that my lil boy is healthy thus far.
