Since the Yorkshire Terrier is such a popular breed, too many backyard breeders who know nothing about the breed have started turning out dogs. The price isn’t that much different on a dog from a reputable breeder and a dog from a backyard breeder. The difference is a reputable breeder will stand behind her dogs. Look for a breeder who does testing and understands why it’s important to follow a standard. Having a dog with an inherited genetic illness is not only financially imposing, it can be emotionally devastating. I always recommend the Yorkshire Terrier Club of American. It’s a good place to start, and you can also learn if a Yorkie is right for your family at this time. Please don't buy a dog from someone who would sell the dog to just anyone. They are in the business of selling dogs, they could care less if your dog is a healthy good representative of the breed. Yorkshire Terrier Club of America About The Club
